Quentin told me about Henri Bergsons idea of crystallization, and that its the phenomenon of forming a mental concept that "crystallizes" your understanding of a phenomenon. It reminded me of meditation in buddhism, and now of the idea of learning to "see" in drawing. I think crystallization is a habit we have, and we dont have to live always by our crystallizations in our mind. Of course it sounds limiting. We can learn methods of expanding our awareness of our experience.

I suppose, however, that crystallizations can be important for relating. When there is a consensus about what some phenomenon is--sympathetic joy is the example i brought up in our conversation yesterday--we have the ability to empathize and feel that experience again. Just as i was able to hear what quentin was referring to in "supermodel" and "bad religion"
