uhm yes. I do not celebrate Valentine's day. I believe it was once a great holiday to celebrate something I do fully believe in; Love. Love is so hard to come by and is extremely fragile. It can sometimes be confused with obsession, jealousy, lust, and greed. I have been alive for nearly 20 years and have yet to know what it is love is. I hope someday I might, but for now I am content being the way I am.
This is the first year I have had an actual relationship during Valentine's day. In actuality all previous relationships I would breakup with them before February the 14th would hit so I wouldn't have to pretend to like the holiday, or tell them why I do not wish to celebrate it. So it was not the reason that I was lonely as to my reason of not liking the holiday.
Valentine's day has turned severely perverse. A holiday once based on the celebration of romance and companionship, has turned into an excuse to spend a few moments to woo and to snag their partner into bed. It is now overly commercialized and used for much more profit than necessary. People are pretty much going to spend money on Valentine's day weather or not commercials are being blasted in their face. I can't ever count how many times sex related merchandise was bought today alone at my store. And surprisingly, hardly any chocolate in comparison. Call me a hopeless romantic if you will, But I used to believe Valentine's day was about romance, love, and spending time with loved ones. Not using it as an easy way to get laid.
I really do wish most people held the same views, I wish it wasn't an over commercialized holiday like Christmas is continuing to become.
To sum up after my nice little rant that doesn't have a huge base of fact, I do not celebrate this current holiday, however I still very much enjoy wishing people a Happy Valentine's day nonetheless.
So to all my good friends and so forth
Happy Valentine's Day!
