I read True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys, issue 1, this week, and it was a blast! Days later, and I'm still bouncing around with glee about it. It just whizzes by in a blaze of gorgeous art and vibrant colour and snarky humour with a tinge of melancholy. Reading it brought back ALL THE FEELS about the build-up to MCR's Danger Days album, with the cryptic 'transmissions' and Twitter accounts, and the glorious thing that was watching the Danger Days trailer for the first time.
I love that
fans have a new generation of Killjoys to draw and dress up as; I love that they're complex characters and not exactly 'good guys'; I love The Girl's resourcefulness and the fact that she's not afraid to talk back even in the face of danger; I love the glimpse of two characters on the 'inside' of Battery City, the two droid girls in love. It's all so great. Gerard Way, Shaun Simon, Becky Cloonan: you're the best team <3
I think loving Killjoys so much actually made it all the more disappointing to hear through his Twitter that Gerard won't be returning to comics for a while after this. I really hoped we'd get more Umbrella Academy soon. But whatever he's got planned next, I know it'll be good!
I realised that I never wrote about my reaction to MCR breaking up. Well, I wrote reams in my personal diary but I won't reproduce it here. Just, there weren't many tears but there was, there still is, an awful sense of loss, because I had so much love stored up for this wonderful crazy gorgeous band, and I don't know if I'll come close to feeling the same way about another. And I'll miss it so much, that anticipation of going to see your favourite band live. But listening to their music, watching the videos, living in that moment, they're still here, they will never go away. ;_*
In other fandoms, I'm watching Hannibal, and alternately squeeing over the chemistry between EVERYONE, and hiding behind my hands at the gore. Haven't ventured into reading fic for it yet - but all the fanart I've seen is super great.
Also, I bought some cheap boxsets of House M.D. and have been mainlining that, to the point where I'm half in love with Hugh Laurie. Then I have to go off and watch him being silly in Blackadder or Fry and Laurie just to balance things out - but face it, he was and will always be a babe :D.
