I went to see Frankenweenie yesterday! A seriously adorable story of a boy and his zombie dog. I stopped off at the Disney Store afterwards and flailed at all of the gorgeous stuff. Still trying to persuade myself that I don't need my own plush Frankenweenie :D.
I really love Disney's new Villains range - they've reinvented some of the major female villains like Maleficent from Cinderella and Ursula from The Little Mermaid with beautiful new designs. Look at these limited edition dolls: gorgeous <3.
It all made a big impression on me because I'm currently reading an anthology of 'retold fairy-tales' written by contemporary fantasy authors, many of which revisit the classic stories from a feminist perspective. So, in some of them, the witch or the evil sea-queen turns out to be the heroine after all! The book's called 'Silver Birch, Blood Moon', edited by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling, and it's one in a whole series of anthologies. I really recommend it (although I bought it second-hand so it may be out of print now). All of which means, I plan to buy a T-Shirt with Maleficent or Ursula on it and wear it with pride :D
