Today I saved a centipede or a caterpillar, dunno which one.
It was in my bathroom, somehow it had gotten there and thoughts ran through my head - does it bite? they don't bite do they? Is it a centipede or a caterpillar? Urgh disgusting, don't stare!
I got a dustpan and scooped it up and tossed it outside in the backyard, intending to free it near the daisies by the pool. It went over the daisies and into the pool.
Thoughts ran through my head - oh! I didn't mean to kill you! I only wanted to free you. I did the sign of the cross, blessing it, as I deliberated what to do next. I would have to swim in that pool today. I would rather swim in the pool today without a dead curled up caterpillar or centipede lying in it, all because of me!
I took the pool cleaning equipment with the net attached to a long pole, dunno what it's called. I looked for the centipede caterpillar. It was still curled at the bottom of the pool. Thoughts - can it breathe under there? You can't breathe under there! It's been a minute already.
The plan was to net the centipede caterpillar out of there. It was moving! It was still alive, not for long. I made waves for it to move in the general direction of the pool's wall. It would have to crawl it's way up to the surface.
It was moving in the general direction. Then it stopped probably stunned by the waves I was making. It let go its grip on the wall and slid down to the net I was holding.
I watched it for a few moments and realised it was trying to grab onto the net. Thoughts - hrmm...
It climbed onto it and I knew that was a good idea!
The centipede or caterpillar held on as the net reached the water's surface and I tossed it again, this time more carefully onto the bed of daisies. There, stay there.
Lesson: Centipedes or caterpillars can really hold their breaths for ages.
