First of all, I am so very pleased that you and your mother had such a good time together. :D I have always loved the weekends and short holidays I had with mine and the memories are very precious to me now.
Thank you also for this great post about Vasa. I remember having seen her when she had just been moved to the then newly built museum. She is impressive, isn't she!
When we entered the museum I got totally giddy and said: "There are no words to describe how much I looooove tall ships!" My Mom looked like "O_o seriously?" but she went along with it and was impressed, too.
And yes, the holiday was nice, although Stockholm is very very expensive (free museums? Unheard of!)and we found more different things to do in London, for example.
Stockholmians (?) seem to just shop and lounge in cafes all day. Very urban. We had at least 6 cups of coffee every day.
Tallships are something very special, aren't they? esp when they are sweetsailing little frigates who are so not old, or first rates like the one in Pompey
A friend and I had been to Stockholm because our trip along the Göta Kanal started from there. Btw, it was a most relaxing trip and they even had the Sjövall/Walöö "Tote im Göta Kanal" in their library. ;D
Ooooh, I love the Vasamuseet! I've been there twice, and it's endlessly fascinating. It has this great atmosphere.
One of the things that stuck with me is that seafaring language is weird! All those labels in three or four languages, and all those strange words - very interesting, etymologically. Very different from how languages are usually related.
