Ok catch-up time. Friday morning I got a call from East Tech (make that 4 calls) saying that I didn't leave them the information they needed on scholarships and that they needed the information by noon. Bastards. Fucking make me work on my day off because you didn't tell me what you needed to begin with. And nothing like advanced notice...a whole two hours. They wanted me to fax them the info. I'm a 23 year old part time employee of CSP...do I look like I own a fax machine? So I looked up a few charts that would satifsy them and emailed it to them. Then I went out to breakfast with Katie and Cathie. And they called me two more times during breakfast! Grrr. Breakfast was really good though. Then Katie and I went shopping at Southpark all day. The air conditioning was wonderful and I managed to spend about $150 on summer clothes. Katie dropped me off at Matt's at 5 and we wandered out to the Promenade to pick up some things I still needed for Lexington. I went home for dinner and mom actually put candles on the table for me for Shabbas! I was so touched! I have the coolest mom in the world. After dinner I went back to Matt's for the night. We watched a movie and planned our trip. We're going to Baltimore, Washington, and Philly, making a stop in State College, of course.
Saturday Matt and I had breakfast with Katie Knay at Oui Oui. Matt and I did a little running around, then I went home and finished Harry Potter 2 (I'm going through them much faster than I planned). I had dinner with mom and dad and watched Cold Mountain.
Sunday morning I went to church, but didn't sing in the choir. It was hot enough without being in the choir loft. I spent most of the day reading and got about half way through HP 3. We went to Applebees for dinner for an early Father's Day and who was next to us, but Matt, Haley and Ms. Leifer.
Yesterday was the first day of the summer program. They told me to expect about 50 kids, so I got supplies for about 40. When I got there at 9, there were 5 kids and they had already finished eating. I was supposed to have until 9:45 for set-up but Bob made me hop right in, so by 10:30 I ran out of stuff to do. We did ice breakers and collages and then I didn't know what else to do so I took them outside for a bit after lunch. We ended up with about 8 kids, and they were all new. They were a good group, young though. Most were about 11 or 12. Today we had about the same number, mostly the same kids, but it went a lot better for me. I refused to start until 9:30 because I had other things to do. I gave the kids their assessment and then we talked about culture and did a computer activity based on The Amazing Race (I gave them clues for different places and they had to answer questions about the country). I had another activity planned but that took them until lunch, so I'll save it for another time. I had to rearrange my lesson plans anyway because the Americorps volunteers have some of their own curriculum we need to work in. That should work out fine though. I was really irritated at Mike today. I went out last week, on my own unpaid time, and bought supplies for Lexington becacuse they had yet to get me any. I gave Mike the receipts today for $175. Now, he told me we have thousands of dollars for supplies but when I gave him the reciepts he was shocked that I had spent so much. Does he think this center runs on air? Hello, paper, pens, and pencils are pretty basic supplies! And I had to buy a few other things for some other activities we'll be doing later, but he's paying me to do a job, and if he wants it done right, I need supplies. He can kiss my ass. Anyway, that's all for now.
