If I'm In South Florida, Should I Bother Voting Republican In State Elections In 2006?
If anyone has paid attention to anything in the legislature in the last few days, the answer should be no. I should NOT vote Republican for State Senate Elections in November. WHY? The Republicans have a huge majority in the State Senate. Its about a 60%-40% Majority. Most of the Republicans come from North and Central FL while most of the Democrats come from South FL. THe Republicans in the State Senate have shown themselves to blatantly, unfairly, favor one part of the state over another. THey voted to give the Orlando Magic, $60 million in state money, yet they pushed back a bill to give the Marlins $60 million in state money. Now, if the Orlando Magic, a team with ZERO championships, is going to get money, then shouldn't the Marlins, a team with two championship in the last 9 years get money too? We have Republicans from South FLA pushing this but it doesn't seem like they're effective enough if their bill gets pushed back to a 11:59 PM vote and then time expires so they can't pass it.
