New Thing of the Day: Making Bread from a recipe from a manga (Japanese comic for those not in the know). its actually really easy to make. The name of the bread is Japan #2 (Japanese pun, ja is short for Japanese, and pan is Japanese for bread. so basically Japanese bread #2).

Now the things you need are a rice cooker, a bowl, milk, bread flour (haven't tried multipurpose yet), dry yeast, butter, salt, sugar, and water.

put all the dry ingredients into a bowl (a little under a half a tablespoon of salt, roughly 1.6 cups of flour, 5g of dry yeast(you can get little 7g packets at the store, so just a little less than a full packet), and 1.5 tablespoons of sugar).

mix all those together then add the wet ingredients (1.5 tablespoons of butter (helps to melt it a little in the microwave), 2 tablespoons and 1 teaspoon of milk, and 3/4 cup of water.)

Mix THAT all together till it starts to get all sticky. make it into a ball and set in bowl in warm place (Now, with winter coming on that tends to make it hard. however we turned on the top oven and the stove light and left it out in the open).

let that rise for an hour, then mush it around to let out the gases stuck inside from the yeast. and let sit for another hour in the rice cooker pot.

turn on the rice pot and wait for it to get done. it changes with the cooker, but with the $20 one we have from walmart, it took about 10 min. flip it over and recook. after that side is done you should try to reflip and recook it. we failed on this because the pot wouldn't cook it the 3rd time, but the instructions say to. however we let it sit in the warm position for about 10-15 min and unplugged it. you should then prolly take it out (we didn't for another few hours....and it got a little soggy around the edges because of steam).

then just cut out a slice and put on a little butter and enjoy!! ^_^
