It's been like practically almost a year since my last post and a lot has happened of course. I'll just make a list of things that happened. I'll try to keep it chronologically cause I like things in chronological order. It's how I roll. lol
-Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 semesters were hard as fuck due to taking the graduate courses along with my undergraduate courses.
-Graduate courses are FUCKING HARD!!! I managed to pull off an A- for both semesters of Anthropological Theory 1 and 2. Broadfield used his evil grading scale for it where you need to get a 95% to get an A. The biological anthropology part of the class was the only reason why I got an A- otherwise I would have gotten a B because cultural anthropology and archaeology suck big balls.
-I took the GRE last October and it gave me a panic attack right in the middle of the test, so I fucked that up real good and ended up having to take Xanax pills.
-After that incident, my endocrinologist noticed my heart rate was fucking too high at rest. She got me at 122 beats per minute resting. She put me on heart medication to slow my heart rate down. I'm now seeing a cardiologist and he's running a bunch of tests on me and he thinks I have Inappropriate Sinus Tacycardia. Some tests couldn't be complete like the whole wearing of the heart monitor for 2 weeks because I got a bad allergic reaction to the electrodes (both regular ones and sensitive skin ones). I'm still on heart medication.
-I'm very heat intolerant. Ovens and fire are evil.
-I took the GRE again in January while on my heart medication and on Xanax. I managed to get a 1020 which is good enough to get into the graduate program at FAU.
-For the Spring 2008 semester, I did a DIS with Broadfield (it was mostly with a grad student named Ian and we measured chimp brain petalias and I noticed that the longer the brain has been in that fluid shit, the nastier and stronger the smell is); I took an archaeology lab methods class with Fradkin which was pretty fun cause I got to clean artifacts which was my favorite part; I also took Neuropsychology with Dr. Rosselli at the Davie campus which was hella awesome and Dr. Rosselli is hella awesome, I had her for Bio Bases of Behavior. I know lots of shit about the brain now. lol
-I wanted to study sex differences in the human brain for my master's thesis, but Broadfield said I should do it on chimp brains because he has them in his fridge and not much has been done on it. I'll be working on my master's thesis already this year because I took Anthro Theory 1 and 2.
-I graduated in May. I graduated Summa Cum Laude, but I don't really know what my final GPA is because of the new piece of shit computer system FAU implemented last January and it ended up adding my graduate courses grades with my undergraduate grades. I got all A's for my undergraduate classes the past year. I should have over a 3.98 GPA since I only got 2 A-'s for my whole undergraduate academic career.
-I'm going to an Allergist now and I got properly allergy tested. My non-food allergies include: Dogs, Cats (I have a cat too), Dust/Dust Mites (my room is filled with it), Trees, Weeds, and Grass. My food allergies include: Milk, String Bean, Wheat, Egg, Chocolate, Soybean, Watermelon, and all tree nuts. There's a bunch of shit that I wasn't tested for so I don't know if I'm allergic to all other stuff. I'm now getting allergy shots every week or what the insurance company calls it Immuno Therapy shots.
-I went to Pennsylvania/New York for 2 weeks to visit my sister and to go to the American Museum of Natural History. My sister lives up in the Poconos in Pennsylvania which is pretty awesome. I loved it there. It was peaceful. I went to Staten Island a few times.
-I was accepted into the anthropology graduate program at FAU. As soon as all my shit was in, they gave me the acceptance letter so fast. I was like, "Holly shit that was quick." I found out I got the Teaching Assistant position for the discussion class of the Intro to Anthro course. I don't know which professor I'm a TA for yet. The only professors teaching the Intro to Anthropology course is Fradkin and Valentina Martinez. So it's gonna be either one of them for the Fall term. I get paid $4,000 per semester and a tuition stipend.
-I miss Dayan, he went to the field school in Ecuador for the summer and when he comes back, he's going to visit Cuba. He graduated with me and he also got accepted into the anthro graduate program at FAU. He's going to be in 2 of my classes. We're taking the archaeology seminar and cultural anthropology seminar together. I'm dreading those 2 courses cause I hate them both with a passion. He'll be taking the Anthropological Theory 1 course during the Fall and I'm not going to be in that class since I already took it last year. So I'm entering graduate school with almost a whole semester's worth of credit. Dayan got the Research Assistant position. He gets paid $2,000 per semester and gets a tuition stipend. He knew he wasn't going to get the TA position because of his grades.
-Brandon and I are still together. Next month will be our 2 year anniversary. He got denied from like everything he tried to do. He's now taking an LSAT course so he could get a high enough score on it to get into law school.
-I got my hair cut this year and a new hair style. Everyone complemented me on it. I have to wake up earlier now just to do my hair. lol. It's annoying. I need to get it cut again and I'm supposed to get a complimentary conditioning treatment.
-I've been looking into Ph.D programs. I've found like 3ish school I want to go to. At the top are Pennsylvania State University (the anthro program was ranked 2nd in the nation for 2007 and the new professor there studies sex differences and he also studies the brain, mostly neuroendocrinology and sex differences), University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand (I have an obsession with New Zealand recently and I want to move there because it's fucking awesome there and it's better than the United States, but I want to go there because I practically had an orgasm when I found out that biological anthropology is in the Anatomy and Structural Biology department and in that department is neuroscience and all the cool shit I want to study. I would not be forced to study cultural anthropology and archaeology anymore there! I don't think I need the GRE to get into that school because it didn't mention anything about GRE in the admission process but I'm gonna e-mail them and find out. I want to go there if I don't get accepted into any American Ph.D programs. I'm hoping to bring Brandon with me. He wanted to go to Penn State with me but it's a pretty hard school to get in. I don't think he needs the LSAT to get into the university in New Zealand.), and finally I was looking at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia (the school is pretty hard to get into too and hella expensive, the only reason I'm applying there is because one of the professors studies brains but mostly chimp and non-human primate brains).
-I'm stuck having to take the GRE again to get a higher score to get into the Ph.D programs in the states. I still need to e-mail Penn State to find out what score they look for on it and I need to e-mail University of Otago to find out if they want my GRE scores.
-Oh yea, I'm in the community summer band at Taravella High School. We have our concert on August 10 at 6 p.m. in the Taravella auditorium. It was fun playing the flute in a band again.
I'm pretty damn hungry now and it's time for lunch so I think I'm done with the update.
