Batman watched the Rogues Gallery in awe. Over the last month criminals had come up with the strangest gadgets ever, and he had collected them all.
Robin’s Rogues Gallery was growing fast, too. Dick was very proud to keep every weapon or object he could snatch from their enemies. But the kid’s favorite was the giant dinosaur in the center of the cave. Batman would have never kept something like that, if it hadn’t been for Dick.
Bruce smirked.
All the other heroes thought that he was a loner, and he himself had believed that working alone was the best thing. But now he had a partner, and for his choice.
Superman couldn’t believe that Bruce had decided to take a sidekick - a kid sidekick no less -, and just a week earlier he had paid them a visit to check, with his own eyes, if the rumors were true. Bruce was starting to reconsider the “fighting alone thing”, and it was all Dick’s worth. He had told Alfred and Clark that he had taken that decision for Dick’s sake, in order to help the kid to overcome his parents’ death and to soothe his pain and rage but - perhaps - Bruce was being a little selfish. Perhaps having a partner was something that the Batman needed, too.
Bruce liked to have somebody guarding his shoulders, somebody to share the long night’s hours with. Not to mention that Dick was an awesome athlete and a promising detective.
Batman checked the computer’s monitor: the signal was off. He smiled.
Dick had fallen asleep over the desk, his hands still clutching Two Face’s golden coin. Robin had found it on the ground, a couple of hours before, right after their fight. Bruce nudged the boy softly:
“Time to sleep, Dick. Why don’t you go to your room?”
Dick didn’t open his eyes,
“Yeah… sleep… I was good tonight…” he whispered, half asleep.
Bruce nodded,
“Yes, you were” he agreed, removing his cape and draping it around the sleeping kid.
He sat beside him to upgrade some files, relaxing on the chair.
He could get used to partnership.
It wasn’t bad at all.
