Found this while puttering around LJ tonight. Thought it might be fun to think of fandomy stuff for a while.
Name fifteen favorite fannish pairings (het/slash/canon/fanon), and ask people if they notice any common traits/tendencies in the pairings you choose. Try to pick different fandoms.
(PS: Most, if not all of these pairings, are purely friendship pairings that I like since I'm a bigger fan of those kinds of fics than het/slash/etc. Actually, I'll note just how I ship them as I go.)

Overall? I'd say my biggest trends are a combination of power dynamics and contrasts. I don't mean power dynamics as in one has power over the other, but as in each pairing has clashing powers over each other. For example, with the Doctor/Brigadier, each character has something over the other (the Doctor's vast scientific knowledge and the Brigadier's military smarts). The characters often clash because their viewpoints and their respective voices of authority are sometimes in direct opposition of each other, but they still manage a strong friendship and have each others' backs. Sort of two halves of one whole, as it were.
