My trip home to Illinois/Midwest started on the 27th of December and ended on the 5th of January. I could go into great details about the events, especially about the wedding that I was a part of, but I thought I would reduce it to a short-hand form. If there's any questions, let me know.
Hopped on a plane - waited.... waited... waited... Landed in Denver, missed flight to Chicago. Rebooked... waited... waited... waited... 7 hours later, I was on my way. Damn weather.
4am. Got bags. O'Hare is a strange place early in the morning. I avoided the creepy people and looked for a bus to Madison. 2 hours later, I was on it. Snow came, I slept.
9:30am. Snowy Madison. Picked up by
etoiledesoiree and shuttled to hotel, then tux fitting, then lunch, then the mall. Somewhere in between I helped push a Mini Cooper up a snowy hill.
Slept for an hour and a half. Nice.
Rehersal. Walk this way, turn like that, offer an arm, etc, etc, etc. Rehersal dinner. Talk about science, bore lots of people. Drink beer. Drink beer. Wait for dinner.... drink beer.
Get back to hotel. Go to bar. Drink beer. Drink, drink, drink. (The 23 year old kept giving me more to drink! How can you refuse?) Go upstairs, pass out.
Wake up. Go to breakfast. Conversation with two particle physicists. Strange. Grab tux. Go to church, sick woman in back seat. Vommiting situation narrowly averted. Rush to rectory and change into tuxes. Inappopriate jokes made. Rush to church, pose for pictures. Man, I look good in a tux (like Uncle Wiggly!)!
Strut, strut, pose. Pictures snapped. Go outside in cold and ice. Snap, snap. Groomsmen pick up
etoiledesoiree (the groom) and try to carry him inside. Fail. Run out in snow and have snowball fight - in tuxes. Pictures taken. Reservoir Dogs scence - hope it comes out well.
Unbelivable wedding ceremony. Perfect. Chills everywhere. Tears flowing from many people. I do my thing - turn, escort, turn, raise hand, smile.... look good. We finish up and go in limo. Take bridesmaids outside to freeze in the snow. Pictures taken. Limo ride with champagne.
Reception - got drunk. Talked, commiserated, danced (!!).
Next day. Slow morning.
girari takes me to
kidling's house. Japanese food and computer gaming. Great night.
Get on train next morning. Chicago Union Station is a busy place. Get on next train. Train breaks. I am sad. 3 hours later, we move again. Twenty minutes after that, I see my parents for the first time in 2 years. I am relieved.
'Twas New Years Eve. Stayed up, watched Dick Tracy. Drank Champagne at midnight - then went to bed. Slept for 10 hours. Wasted time at parents, sat around a lot. Played some games, watched some TV, did some grocery shopping. Made dinners, played with nephew, talked with family. Relaxing week.
End of trip. Said goodbye. Packed bags and headed to the airport. No problems. Tired. Good trip. Glad to be back.
Hurray to the happy couple! Hugs to everyone! Miss family.
Maybe next year...
