and so it is...just like you said it would be

I have noticed that everyone seems to be updating me about their lives (via LJ of course) and I have failed to reciprocate. But sometimes life is just too busy! Finding myself in an air-conditioned sanctuary, I think I will fulfill my LJ responsibilities.

Alas, I am jobless for the summer. Well...that isn't entirely true, but I don't have a job in any conventional sense of the word. I am, however, looking for a job to start come September. Teaching jobs in General Science seem to be a bit hard to come by, seeing as I am among a slew of highly qualified candidates. I have been to one interview so far, and have sent out a series of applications and resumes. So, if anyone hears about any teaching jobs, be sure to let me know, ok? *wink, wink*

Other than the job hunt, my time has been largely devoted to fitness. I have enlisted my father as my new workout partner (a feat indeed) and we've been trying to keep a regular daily schedule of morning workouts. It has been marginally successful. I find myself often exercising alone (conflicting schedules have gotten in the way a bit) or bugging Joe to motivate me by way of joining me in my workouts himself. He was resistant, to say the least. While we were at the Stevie Nicks/Don Henley concert, we made a bet. He stated that Eartha Kitt was Lieutenant OHura on Star Trek, and of course, I knew that she wasn't. (Come on folks, who's going to win a Star Trek bet?) Anyway, Joe lost, and was thereby drafted to join me in a workout. He did, and has since exercised with me one other time. I may be on my way to converting him into a fitness fanatic.

I was successful in making him a tennis fanatic, however. In my quest for fitness, I dragged him out onto the tennis courts at Coventry High, and he soon became addicted. We've joined the regulars down at URI on a few occasions, and have also sparred with Joe's brother Chris, and Chris's girlfriend, Jackie. Jackie is a rather experienced player, and has become a formidable rival for me on the courts. Jackie and I had one impressive match recently - a sort of cat fight out on the courts. There wasn't any animosity between us at all. It was just one of those matches that result when you put two strong-willed and fiercely competitive females together. After a gruelling set, I emerged victorious, with a win of 7-5. I suppose Jackie will be requiring a rematch soon.

Between workouts, Joe and I have found time to see Star Wars three times, go to the aforementioned concert, and indulge in a life of laziness. It's been wonderful, to say the least. We're looking forward to watching some live, professional tennis in early July.

Done and done.
