Their dance teacher, who was named Nakayama Yuusuke, fist showed them the whole dance in tune to the song they had recorded a few days ago. After that, he began splitting them into groups. Yamada found himself grouped with Chinen, Hikaru and Inoo.
"Mou, I have to dance in front again... why am I so short?" Daiki complained. Unfortunately, the youngest member of BEST was teamed up with Yabu and Takaki, JUMP's tallest members.
"Daijobu, Dai-chan... the fans will just see your cute face; no one would notice," consoled Yabu. All of them laughed as both Yabu and Takaki patted Daiki on the head at the same time.
Ah, Chinen-kun and I are with Hikaru-kun and Inoo-kun... maybe we'll dance in the center again... Aa~... I wish I could dance next to Yuto... then we could laugh at the steps we mess up...
Yabai... he was talking to himself again... this always happens when he isn't talking to Yuto...
A whistle again interrupted his thoughts, and practice started immediately. The dance was harder than anything they have ever tried before, and all of them were having a hard time catching up.
"Yamada-kun! How many times do I have to tell you that you have to go left before turning right? Please pay attention! You're the only one moving in the opposite direction!"
"Hai, sumimasen!"
Everyone could notice that Yamada was out of his element. Dancing was something that came naturally to him, but every step he made today produces a yell from his irritable teacher. The fact that the dance was really hard didn't help matters, as all of them struggled to remember every step-ball change step that they have to do. It was no wonder that when their practice ended, the exhausted members of JUMP collapsed as one in their dressing room. They were extremely tired out, but they needed to rest for more torture activities they had to do for today. One particular little squirrel was sprawled on the middle of the floor, too tired to even find a seat.
"Chii-chan... daijobu ka?"
Chinen looked up to find Takaki smiling down at him, a towel draped over his shoulders and a half-empty bottle of water in his hand. Takaki smiled, to which Chinen replied with a bright grin of his own, feeling as if he was recharged all of a sudden. Takaki sat down cross-legged on the floor by Chinen's head and began stroking his hair like one would do to a pet cat. Chinen closed his eyes in pure bliss, but opened them again at the sound of Takaki's laughter.
"What's funny, Yuuyan~?"
"Your face looked weird," the older boy said with a laugh.
"Eh~? Meanie~," said Chinen, sitting up and crossing his arms, pouting.
"Daijobu, you're still cute na~" replied Takaki, pinching the little boy's cheek tenderly.
"Hai~!"
"Why don't you get up from the floor? You'll get sick if you stay there..." Takaki said worryingly.
"But I can' stand up... I'm too tired, ~" whined the poor boy.
"Here, I'll carry you," offered Takaki, hoisting Chinen onto his back. The boy smiled angelically, a soft sound of pleasure escaping from his lips.
I missed this... Chinen thought, smiling and tightening his embrace on Takaki's neck.
"Chii-chan, you're strangling me," said Takaki with a laugh.
"Ah, sumimasen!"
Takaki smiled softly, and they then went off to a quest to search for a nice place to stay and be alone...
Hikaru, Inoo and Yabu, on the other hand, were enclosed in their own busy little world. Yabu and Hikaru were memorizing their scripts for their current respective dramas while Inoo typed a mile a minute in his laptop. A few moments later, Hikaru threw down his script and stretched his arms.
"Wah~, thank goodness I'm done... Kouchan, Kei-chan, let's go to the combini... I'm hungry~," Hikaru invited.
"Not now Hikaru, we're busy..." Yabu vaguely replied, his eyes never leaving the page he was reading. Inoo took off the glasses he was wearing and smiled apologetically at Hikaru before returning to the mountain of references before him. Hikaru could do nothing but sulk as he watched his two friends working. He got out his laptop and decided to watch a movie for a while, plugging on his headphones so as not to disturb the other two. Engrossed in the movie, he was surprised to find only Inoo in front of him when he looked up, still typing.
"Eh? Where's Yabucchi?"
"Oh, he left a while ago. Julie-san called him... it was something to do with a stage play..."
"Ah sou... What are you typing anyway? Oh wait, let me guess.. 'Yaotome Hikaru-sama: The Next Big Star!' ?"
Inoo laughed, making a warm feeling spread inside Hikaru's chest. "You're not even close... I'm typing a paper for my defense class... my professor is torturing us..." he whined.
"Want some help? I'm not doing anything right now.." offered Hikaru, peering at Inoo from behind five or more thick volumes stacked around him. Inoo just smiled and shook his head.
"Daijobu, I can do this by myself. Why don't you rest? Filming ended later than usual yesterday, right? You must be dog tired..."
"You sure? You look tired yourself... you're even making puns! Why don't you take a break?"
"I'm almost done, don't worry about me... No, really," Inoo insisted as Hikaru fixed an eye on him. Hikaru just shrugged and continued to watch.
About half an hour later, Hikaru finished the movie he was watching. His appetite returning, he decided to go to the combini to buy some snacks. Removing his headphones, he looked up to invite Inoo to go with him but stopped in his tracks.
Inoo was lying fast asleep, using a dictionary as a pillow and a forgotten pencil grasped in his hand. His face was peaceful as Hikaru stared at his sleeping profile, unaware that his best friend was looking at him that very moment. Hikaru picked up a blanket lying around and stood up, draping it over his friend's shoulders. He was about to turn around when Inoo's open laptop caught his attention. He stared at the laptop screen, a grin slowly spreading across his face.
Inoo's desktop wallpaper was a stolen shot of him and Hikaru, courtesy of Yabu. Inoo was leaning his head on Hikaru's shoulders, while Hikaru had placed his head on top of Inoo's. Their hands were linked securely, and both were sound asleep. In the background were Yuto and Yamada, looking at the camera and pointing at the sleeping couple, smiling their heads off. Hikaru smiled, remembering how he and Inoo chased Yabu around the jimusho and being scolded by Akanishi-kun and Kamenashi-kun. Hikaru saved the document that Inoo left open and turned off the laptop himself, deciding to let Inoo sleep a little longer.
Returning to his side of the table, Hikaru rummaged in his bag and found his wallet. Raising his head, his own laptop wallpaper greeted his face. He looked at the screen, a soft smile on his face. A picture of two people sleeping peacefully, holding hands… two little twerps pointing at the pair, grinning like there was no tomorrow…
“What was he so shy about?” Hikaru mused, a mysterious smile gracing his features.
I guess I’ll just buy him some snacks… I bet he’s hungry…
