The vision of Nate, running in a summer night, past Godric each time, is one I can see very clearly in my head. For some reason, probably your amazing writing, it's crystal in my head, and I can almost hear the stillness of the night, Nate's feet slapping the pavement, the cat purring beside of Godric, with Godric himself a point of stillness in the middle of all that life.

I like this image for Godric's stillness. The sense of hunting non-maliciously, of waiting for Nate to come to him.

I'm so intrigued now, wondering what this Nate thought the first time that he saw Brad, after having known Eric. I want to know everything about their relationship -- what Brad thinks and feels about it all, what both of them think when they hear that Godric is dead, and what Eric really thinks about the two of them.

This seems to be the next step, although even I don't know the story yet (although I'm sure it will come to me soon!).

You always write gorgeous work, but the atmosphere on this piece... you've really outdone yourself. Brava!

Aw, thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked!

I have to admit that I'm equally as curious as to Eric's true thoughts on Nate's time in Iraq. Of course, you've mentioned it in passing, but I would be fascinated with a more in depth exploration of that time.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the cat? Does he still live at that bench?

Re: Eric's thoughts on Iraq: I think the contrast of how Eric understands/lived war with war as we know it now would be really interesting

(God, stop giving things to think about! It's so much more interesting than film theory!)

I actually have no idea. I'm not even sure where the cat comes from, but he probably misses his weird, dead-smelling, very still acquaintance.

Face it, any of Eric's thoughts on Nate, Brad, or the modern world are going to be fascinating! You've just got to find a way to mix film theory with Eric/Nate. =D
