Part Two nightanddaze November 1 2009, 04:20:08 UTC
The last night they walk the city, the old streets and the new ones, past the black alleys and the lit-up cafés and pubs. They don’t talk much.

Nate’s emotions swirl in the back of Eric’s mind: loneliness, confusion, something sweeter and soft. Eric feels for him and his human frailty. Twenty-two is very young, no matter how strong the individual.

They stop at a corner to wait for the light. There’s a cluster of girls on the other side in high-heels and little skirts. They look over and start giggling. When the light turns green they all walk with swinging hips, hoping to be noticed. Eric listens to their blood pump, hunger licking at him.

They pass the women in the middle of the road and both parties come out unscathed, luckily. The opposite side of the street is dark, except for the blue of Nate in the back of Eric’s mind.

“Are you,” Nate asks quietly, “hungry?” He touches Eric’s shoulder and a longing swells in the back of Eric’s mind.

Eric shrugs. He fed a few days ago, when Nate brought his bag of things to Eric’s house, hotel shampoo smell strong behind his ears.

“Maybe you could…” Nate ponders the language for a moment, “drink from me. Once more. If you want.”

“Yes,” Eric says without hesitation. There’s no point denying his pleasure now, especially not if it’s Nate’s pleasure too.

They duck into an alley, mouths meeting in short, soft kisses. Nate walks backward, tugging Eric until they’re tucked into a dark doorway. Then he pulls away from Eric’s mouth, turning his chin up and away, exposing his throat and the bump of his pulse. He’s holding onto Eric’s shoulders tightly, as if Eric would pull away.

Eric’s fangs come out so quick it’s a shock, but he doesn’t bite right away. Instead he kisses Nate’s skin, the smoothness where he’s shaved. He laps over the spot he’s going to bite, low down, more shoulder than neck, easily hidden but still blood-rich.

Nate melts against him, curling in, breathing hard. He whimpers when Eric does bite him, but doesn’t tense up, only making a choked-off sound as Eric starts to drink.

Feeling rushes through Eric, his own and Nate’s, too much too quick to process. He tries to focus on the taste of Nate’s blood, the sweetness and shades of his flavour.

This time tomorrow night Nate’ll be gone, back to his real life, and they’ll only have a little bit of blood between them.

SOOOOOOOO AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING!

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh. I love every little thing about this, from Nate making his decision to leave without consulting Eric to all the emotions running between them at the end. Eric pretends not to really care but he dooooooooooooooooooes. And oh the stuff about talking to Nate about being a real warrior and how it's different now! I love your Eric so so soooo much and we only see a little of this Nate but he's still amazing.

I really could just read about them FOREVER AND EVER!

If you're going to have a college/'what am I doing with my life' crisis, you might as well do it the Nate way and find yourself a vampire for some truly debauched fun and, you know, an entirely different perspective on life, time, being a warrior and just about everything. It doesn't hurt that Eric is smart and respects Nate's intelligence while keeping his distance because he's Eric, after all.

I love that Nate wants Eric to feed from him. It's saying goodbye and indulging in Eric being a vampire and maybe, though he's not aware of it, making sure he'll be remembered.

Agreed! My quarter-life crisis is so lame now, in comparison. Needs more Eric.

Damn, but I love this! Especially how much Eric's affected by Nate, even if he barely admits it to himself.

He thinks he's so cold.

NOT.

I love the little glimpses of their relationship we're getting here. I'm so intrigued by their dynamics in this AU.

If I end up watching True Blood, it's all your goddamn fault. I'm just saying.

[Except that I'll keep expecting to see Nate around Eric, and talk about disappointment.]

Watch it! It's so ridiculous I'd have to make up a new word for it: Truebloodiculous or something.

Nggghhh.

I don't even watch True Blood (well. Okay. Sometimes I sort of skip through an episode to get to the Eric parts), but this... Dude. HOT.
