I really don't have much to say on this section other than I really want to give them all a hug.

They all need a lot of hugs. The angst will ease up, though :)

Ouch for the angst in this one. Losing Rothman, then the retwisting of 'The Curse'. And everyone trying to save and shield Daniel, only to have him save them instead. I like the fact that he's still reeling from losing Rothman, he's hurt and confused and grieving, yet still does what needs to be done. That's very much our Daniel.

The sideways slant on 'Scorched Earth' was good. Lots of folks don't like that one because of the Jack-Daniel antagonism. I love it because even after that, we see they can still be friends.

And especially loved Jack's protectiveness, never more evident when he has to remind General Hammond to ease up on the pressure this whole situation has placed on Daniel. Reminds me of 'The Fifth Race', when the scientists are babbling and General Hammond turns to Daniel with a 'what the hell are they saying?' expression.

I wasn't sure what people would think of "Scorched Earth," but in this case, I think that, whether it was SG-1 without Daniel or some other team, the peaceful solution would not have been reached. Glad you liked the protectiveness.

It was a bit angst-heavy, yeah, but sooner or later, they must get a break :) Thanks!

I won't say that Daniel was the only one who could have found that solution. But it would have taken someone whose thought process is off-the-wall and those folks are pretty few and far between.

Definitely--I meant that, if it happened the way it did in the episode I'm not sure many aside from Daniel would have gone up to the ship with Lotan with five minutes left to the detonation of the bomb, since it really is at least borderline insubordination, not to mention personally risky (and it seemed clear that, for all of them, the first priority was to save the Enkarans, and then the Gadmeer if possible). I'm sure others could have come up with the solution, but, especially with the time crunch, I'm not sure many others would have in time. :)

Hmmm... The Gadmeer civilization is dead and the Enkarans will never return to their homeworld. That's unexpected... I was actually looking forward to the episode as I figured it would push Daniel into taking a stand on his own that might be pretty uncomfortable for him given the semi-paternal relationship he has with Jack. Kind of a baby bird leaves the nest rather dramatically sort of thing. ;) I'm sorry to see him sidelined again, as well (that's why I commented that I wished he hadn't been injured again in the first half of the chapter). Stiil, I'm intrigued by the dynamic you're setting up between Reeves, Jordan, and Daniel. Do I sense academic conflict ahead? Or is this how Daniel learns to be an archeological expert? *ponders* :)

Yeah, I knew not everyone would like the "Scorched Earth" thing; I'm not sure I like it, either, but (even though this might not be the best excuse plotwise) I thought it was going to get bogged down in too much team-tension and angst. This time, at least it was ALL of SG-1 getting sidelined, not just Daniel. There will be instances of that sort of conflict down the line, though, and the issues with parental-Jack and the event(s) of 'leaving the nest" will be addressed before the end of the book in a number of somewhat-twisted, turned-around ways.
Cheers.

Well, it might not have been my first choice, but it was a brave one, and that's always a good thing! :)
Edit: I was so focused on the Gadmeer and the Enkarans, I forgot to respond to the rest of your comment. All that sounds VERY interesting!

I just wanted you to know how much I'm enjoying this story. Your insight into character and motivation is what makes the whole thing so enjoyable, not to mention your wealth of subject knowledge. I started reading your series on fanfiction.net, and then found out that new chapters appear earlier here.

So sad about the Gadmeer civilization, but I agree with you on the likely outcome if an adult Daniel hadn't been there. I doubt that a teen Daniel would have made the same choice.

Thank you, and I'm glad you're enjoying it! It's a lot of fun to write :)

Oh! You killed off the Gadmeer!

That's... whew. And an all-too-likely scenario, considering SG-1's absence.

Poor Jordan. Poor Daniel. Poor all of them, really.
