Whew! I thought Nick was going to figure out who Daniel was from Jack remark about Abydos, which wouldn't have pleased Daniel. It sure is strange that Daniel is so resistant about that... Good job on the appendicitis! Very realistic!
“Sir, Jack! He’s...” Daniel said in his articulate way.
::giggles::
“Oh, for cryin’ out loud,” Jack snapped.
“Oh, for crying out loud,” Nick said carefully in his Dutch accent.
Comedy GOLD. :D
Jack tried to strangle the man. Nick smiled at him.
Jack AND Nick, beautifully summed up, right there!
Poor Daniel, torn between telling Nick who he is and Jack. And I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed Jack's frustration between what he could and couldn't pass through, and Sam's stamping on the ground here.
Nice take on the appendicitis, and I'm amused at the irony of Jack thinking that Daniel doesn't take radiation seriously, considering canon Daniel's nervousness on the subject since long before Meridian. And this was just perfect Teal'c: “I do not believe Daniel Jackson’s internal organs have the ability to effect such destruction,” Teal’c added seriously.OTOH, not so funny when you consider that yes, the world did almost come to an end with the Replicators. Poor Daniel and his digestive tract
( ... )
Jack's frustration is great. And Nick's kind of fun, too :)
I've always liked the way canon-Daniel seems freaked about radiation, but then, on our fair planet with lots of potentially radioactive technology, I assume we get slammed with warnings about it more than AU-Daniel would have on Abydos.
The appendicitis was almost disappointing for me; it was going to be something more dramatic, but then it just seemed too exaggerated. Besides, domestic Jack&Daniel scenes are always fun :) Thanks!

I was wondering what line you were going to use in place of "Don't be an ass, Jack." :-)
Your appendicitis scenario was domestically dramatic enough, IMO. It's not something people think of immediately. My younger sister was sick for DAYS without my parents realizing that it could be appendicitis. By the time they took her to the doctor, she felt much better, because it HAD ruptured. Several years later, when our middle brother showed similar symptoms, my parents IMMEDIATELY took him to the doctor, even though it was the day after an F5 tornado had left a seven-mile path of destruction that my parents had to cross (during curfew) to get to the hospital. His appendix was removed long before it would have ruptured.
Wow--I'm appendicitis does sound like one of those really scary things that I'm glad I've never (so far) experienced. That sounds like an intense thing to go through.
Great chapter! Like Fig, I was so thrilled to see a new chapter until I realized just how close we are to the end of this story.
As for the appendicitis thing, my family has had three bouts with it. One sister had acute and nearly died when it ruptured, one sister had chronic (the docs told my folks her stomach pains were because she was starting puberty...) and my nephew was in and out of surgery before we'd made it to the cafeteria. So it can be quite dramatic or, well, I wouldn't say ordinary, but somewhat less dramatic.
I was almost sorry that Nick didn't find out Daniel was his grandson; I figure he would have still chosen the giant aliens over Daniel. But he's got Jack and Sam and Teal'c so that's a family right there.
Appendicitis sounds really scary--as I mentioned above, I've read a few over-the-top appendix stories and was afraid my version would end up either too dramatic or not enough; I guess it fits in that 'range' of possibilities, then.
And I think you're right that Nick would have chosen the giant aliens over Daniel, so in a way, in not telling him I was trying to pick the path of less angst (for once). Who needs a family when he's got SG-1? :) Thanks!
