I loved this: Daniel recognized how disturbed Robert is (and I always thought the systematic deconstruction of history and mythology is another reason canon Daniel hates the Goa'uld), and how disturbed Sam is, and how troubled Teal'c is that revenge isn't as sweet as he thought - and it doesn't occur to him that if he's around to see Sam stressed out at 3 a.m., what does that say about him? Stellar characterization.

And, oh - is this the Teal'c and Daniel friendship chapter you promised? Beautiful. I love when Daniel snaps, and Teal'c just takes it. Because how much of that was actually bleeding into his fury at not just what happened to Apophis, but the family he lost because of Apophis - and Teal'c?

He seemed to be making a long chain out of rubber bands, which Daniel took to mean he’d either run out of paperclips or accidentally locked himself out of his office.

That just made me laugh out loud. :) And then waiting and hoping for Sha'uri and Skaara almost broke my heart.

Love Teal'c dragging him up to the mountaintop. I love Teal'c's utter calm and wisdom and closeness with Daniel. And then that angry confrontation - oh, wow.

“If Skaara...” He choked. “If...if Skaara dies somewhere far from home, who would do the rites for him? Or for Sha’uri?”

Oh, Daniel. And then Teal'c's promise made me shiver, because what are you planning for FIAD?!

Love the parallel between Jaffa rites and Kheb, because it's one of my hot buttons, which I won't rant about here. ;)

And then Teal'c not wanting to sing! "Fortunately, we are not on Chulak." Hee!

You may have noted that I really, really liked this chapter. :) Can't wait for more!

(On a tangent, I forgot to ask in the last chapter: why didn't anyone mention the possibility of using the sarcophagus on Apophis? I wouldn't expect it to actually happen, but I was surpirsed it didn't come up, especially when the sarcophagus was cited as the only thing that might possibly heal him.)

Glad you liked this chapter. I didn't have much Daniel/Teal'c, but I figured they deserved at least one chapter together.

About the sarcophagus--with the warnings from the Tok'ra and Sokar, I figured letting him die was to be their act of 'mercy' before sending the body back (until they realized that Sokar has a sarcophagus, too). That's my handwave, anyway.

And yeah, I was thinking of that "Fortunately, we are not on Chulak" line when I wrote that :)
