There's glass between us

I saw "I <3 Huckabees" last night with my father and sister. I was kind of surprised it was showing at the Danbury, it seemed as if it might have been a little too left of center for their tastes, but whatever. Only problem was, it was a Saturday night, and any Westsider can tell you that place is teenybopper hell-on-earth after the sun sets.

I really wasn't all that taken with it when I was walking out of theatre, although I was well aware it's one of those films that needs more than one viewing. It was only later on that night, and after thinking about it, that I really began to like it.

It was surprising to see Isabelle Huppert as the French philosopher - I had no idea she would ever pick a role like that. Granted, I have only seen her in one other film, but she never struck me as one who would make a jump to American cinema.

Actually, that other film, "The Piano Teacher", was pretty appalling. I would not say fucked-up or disturbing, at least not visually, but it was kind of like "Leaving Las Vegas", in that after you're done watching it, you feel empty. "Requiem For A Dream" might fall under this heading, but I've seen it way too many times for it to affect me anymore.
