OK, so my weekend was pretty awesome.
Chris and I left Murfreesboro around 11:30 or noon. A little later than we anticipated, but we still were able to take our time to get to Atlanta. It was a nice, semi-relaxed drive. Good conversation and even better company to share it with.
We got to Atlanta, and checked out this OMGAWESOME comic shop. I can't remember the name offhand; I think it was Oxford Comics? They had all kinds of stuff, and I got a Fruity Oaty Nut Bar lunch box :D Stacy is officially hating me for it *laughs*
After the comic shop, we moved on to the Fox theatre in downtown Atlanta. The directions to get there were a bit.... skewed... so it ended up taking longer than we thought, but we still got there in plenty of time for the show to start.
Now, I've heard some Tom Waits before. Thought it was interesting, kinda neat, I wasn't overly impressed. It had an original sound.
I am now a diehard fan. That man is amazing. I have never seen a show that good, and doubt I ever will again. The performance, the music, everything was incredible. I was so incredibly impressed and stunned by what I saw... I can't stop listening to him now. His voice is incredible... that gravely bluesy bass, and his music has such a unique sound, it covers so many subjects and so many peoples.... I've never heard anything that struck my heart the way it does. I am, without a doubt, hooked. He nearly had me in tears at points. Tom came out to do one encore, which was such a gift to the audience. Just listening to him now, I get chills thinking about it.
So, after the show, we reluctantly left Atlanta (after a quick stop for some food at the Varsity drive-in, of course) and headed north again. It was still relatively early, somewhere around midnight, so we decided to try and make it all the way back home. ... Yeah, didn't make it, stopped at a Ramada about an hour south of Chattanooga.
Sunday we decided to hop into Chattanooga and see what they had to offer. It was a great, adventurous day! We saw the Chattanooga Choo Choo, and then took the free shuttle to the Chattanooga Aquarium. The aquarium was great. It was split into two buildings, one "Ocean" and one "River". In the ocean building, we got to pet sting rays and sharks, and see jellyfish, octopussies, GIANT crabs, fish in every color of the rainbow... and of course, the Penguins. The penguins were great, they kept swimming right up by the glass and looking at ya, and they had a little water thing you could stick your hand in to see how cold it was. 40 degrees, BRRRR! We saw a butterfly house too, which was great. WE spent some time just sitting on a bench in there, watching them flutter around. Then we moved onto the "River" side of the aquarium, which was equally awesome! We got to pet a sturgeon, and see alligators and the otters! The otter was great, he kept looking at me all upside down through the glass.
Ok, I've got to hit the sack. I'm tired from work, and I promise I'll finish the stories of our exploits tomorrow :)
