This is the first in a series of one shot ideas I have for the pairing of Jessica/Hoyt from True Blood. I don't know how many chapters there will be in all or if another multiple chapter story will develop but I have several ideas. Any comments at all are welcome I haven't written anything in so long but I couldn't help myself any longer! I will be posting it also on fan fiction.net and possibly
jessica_hoyt if I am feeling brave. Well here goes!
Twilight Time
It had seemed to Jessica as if she waited an age for him to show up. Just sitting there bored out of her mind by all the chatter on tv about celebrities and where they lived and who they slept with or didn't. She would have flipped the channel but that would have only brought the news and she had no want to listen about all the worst of humanity at that moment. Then there were the infomercials....
When the knock came at the door she nearly jumped from the couch to awnser. A quick turn of the knob and the night air came in to greet her face. That wasn't all, Hoyt was standing there in a blue checked button down shirt and jeans looking at her in that way he did, like he was seeing her for the first time. Then that smile that even reached his eyes. She knew her heart wasn't racing.. it couldn't be. It was sure as heck something though and she always felt it without fail.
" I got something special planned just for you. I would have told you but... I really wanted it to be a surprise ..." his voice was trailing off.
She thought over her outfit. Just a simple blue sundress and her hair she hadn't even had a chance to curl it. She had no clue where he wanted to go...
"Don't you even worry about that Jessica. You look fine, much better than fine actually. So what do you say?" That questioning look and his outstreched hand. How could she ever say no?
"Don't I get just one hint? Even a tiny one?" Her best pouting look accompained this statement as she looked up through the few strands of her light red hair that had fallen down over her eyes.
" Come on now you don't really want it spoiled do you?" That smile again. Not fair.
Her hand slid into his easily and they ran down the driveway to the car. Soon enough she would know and the destination wasn't the important part anyways.
XXXXXXX
Dancing.
She never got to go dancing. Not even to the prom...no that had been another one of those things.
They were one of the few couples on the floor. The air smelled like smoke and several different perfumes but it wasn't unpleasant. This place reminded her of the photographs you would see of old styled resturaunts. The music even played from a red and white jukebox. She would never have guessed this was it. Even when they pulled in to the small parking lot she had only wondered why he drove so far out to eat. The idea that so much attention had been paid to some off-hand comment made about something missed out on.. touched her in such a real way.
The feel of his warm hand on her back. The steady beat of his heart not far from her ear. A steady even pulse. Her face turns just slightly as her eyes fall closed. A small breath drawing in the scent of his skin. She loved that smell..of course even when he came to her just after work and smelled like sweat and asphalt its just the same.
Suddenly the warmth of breath brushes her ear.
"When I was a kid this was one of those songs on Mom's old records...I hated them."
She smiles suppressing a short laugh. If she had a nickle for everytime she hated something her Dad had played...
"I was thinking though that... I like this one now."
She feels his hand press her closer . A smile graces her face as for the first time she listens to the words of the sweet refrain.
Each day I pray for evening just to be with you. Together at last at twilight time.....
