my recontracting form is in and it's official. a n00b will be living in this apartment come this time next year. D;

my supervisor's reaction when i handed the form to her made me feel a taaaaaaad bit bad. i had told her when she had asked in the past that i was pretty sure that i would recontract. then when i had an "interview" recently with her and the assist head of the boe the question of recontracted hadnt even been brought up (although it seems it was for others) because it was already assumed that i would recontract. well, at that time even i was sure that i would... anyway, handing her the form that said i wasn't seemed to put her into a temporary state of shock. she asked why, but i'm not even sure all of my explanation got through to her. ^^;

anyway, it's done. w00t!

yesterday was setsubun (see last year's entry for explanations) so me and David bought norimaki sushi and ate them in silence facing this year's lucky direction (WSW). supposedly the norimaki contains your happiness for the next year so you are not suppose to cut them (DONT CUT YOUR HAPPINESS) but instead eat them as is in their entirety. if you do this in silence while facing the lucky direction (which changes every year) luck will come your way for the next year! we also threw fukumame (lucky soy beans) at the entrance of the apartment while saying setsubun's lucky chant to chase away demons (GODDAMN THOSE DEMONS). we then ate the prescribed amount (your age + 1 for the new year) of fukumame to bring on even more luck for the new year. we learned about all the setsubun traditions in detail this past weekend at a norimaki-making cultural class btw (pix!: 1 + 2 + 3). as setsubun is the celebration of the start of spring and a new year, so it feels like the perfect time to have turned in my recontracting form. :]

changing subjects again, my new (and first) credit card finally came in the mail today. mom forwarded it to me and i activated it tonight. i'm trying to make my way through the many papers that came with it... it's kind of overwhelming. ^^; i have a year of 0% APR... i have no specific intention to use this card, but maybe it'll come in handy while getting on my feet in Australia? debt is to be avoided at all costs though, of course.

speaking of debt-- as it has nothing to do with anything-- i'm hungry. time for tomato ramen!

recontracting, japan, holidays, money, trying new things, life, decisions
