I will agree that is can be really bizarre. When I was in Tokyo, I watched a drama called ザ・エンバーまー about a guy who had a natural talent for embalming. Then his girlfriend got hit by a car and everyone's like, "Hiroshi! You HAVE to embalm Hoshi because you're the best embalmer there is!" And he was like, "No, I can't! I love her too much!" The best scene was when he was weeping uncontrollably while removing her organs and stuff. haha to this day I wonder if it was some kind of joke because everything was so overly dramatic. But so are all dramas.
My favorite show is 脳壁 because it takes, like, NO Japanese skill to watch and it can be really hilarious sometimes.
There's a show I saw in Osaka and I don't know what it's called. Maybe you can help? They take a Japanese person and take him/her to another country around the world to work and live with strangers. I saw one where this guy went to live with metal workers in France. And a girl lived with farmers in Mongolia. It was SO COOL! I want to see that show again, but I only have like 3 channels and I've never seen it come on. Maybe you know the name?
