just got to the Keio Plaza hotel. uber tired, but not surfering jetlag as bad as some others.
i had been worried that the flight would suck because i heard from misc other people that Northwest Airlines sucks, but perhaps Portland's NWA is better? the flight was fine. everyone had their own tv, had a nice selection of recent and old movies/shows/music to choose from, served two very nice tasting meals + ice cream sandwiches! they served us 'breakfast' like an hour before landing. o_O when it would have been like.... midnight PST time and 4pm japan time. wtf? and fried rice w/ teriyaki pork = breakfast? not that i'm complaining. >_>; tasted good.
got here on time and getting through Narita Airport as a lot easier than i had expected.... i think everyone was slacking on their jobs and just trying to rush all the JETs along because they didn't want to have to deal with our crap lol. o_O we didn't even go though customs.... oh yeaah, special JET treatment. 8) that'll end come wednesday, though.
it was a 2hr+ drive from Narita to Shinjuku... o_o' even excluding the fact that we had to get from Narita to Tokyo, Tokyo is HUGE, omg. i'm sure we drove through a large portion of it. it's like EVERYthing is a tower/skyscraper. everywhere. advertisments everywhere and inbetween. i'm sorry, but NYC does not complare. there's a really nice picturesque view out my window i'll try to catch before i leave... the Keio is a really rich, uppity hotel.... i'd feel really out of place if it weren't for the thousand other JETs wandering around. there's no way i could ever afford to stay in such a place myself. ._.'
but anyway, i'm here. w00t! who knows what tomorrow will bring. i'm kinda in what i've heard some people call a "gaijin bubble" right now. in a foreign country where you don't speak the language and are a minority, but you're surrounded by so many gaijin that you're kind of 'cushioned' from the fact that you're in a foreign country where you know nothing....
i'm sure i'll get punched in the face with culture shock soon enough.
why am i on here instead of finding food and sleeping?
