its 6 45am and i am in a small quaint b&b in florence, tuscany, italy. i am part way through my europe holiday, with only 2 stops to go. 3 days in venice and 4 days in paris. although the house and dog are all looked after, part of me wants to be back home. only part though. =)
italy is a fantastic place. from the old, ancient ruins in rome to the cathedrals in florence, and the humdrum of naples... theres so much to do and see. the quality of food cant be beat, and the selection of gelati (REAL gelati) is enough to make anyone fat. the senoras are extremely pleasing to the eye, and i feel shallow mentioning it but mention it i have, so i cant take it back now. i feel however that there is something missing here in italy, and i think its that love for people which is sadly lost to the new generation. people are busy running around, thinking only of their best interests and not caring how rude they are or appear to be. you get that anywhere you go, but it strikes me that italy has got this pretty bad. the international language of rude, knows no geographical border.
shopping here is pretty good for the ladies. lots of gucci bags, armani sunglasses and all that jazz. i am not really into gucci, but i can appreciate the draw here.
italy is also very expensive, and quality seems to not fully match up with price. i had THE best chicken kebab EVER (ok not really a kebab, but a plate with salad and meat) in mesopotamia kebabs in florence (just off Via Feisolana) and that cost me 6 euro. what a sweet deal. however i had what i guess amounts to a very ordinary and small steak and glass of wine (just my meal alone) and that cost about 40 euro.
amazingly, during the night i awoke and recalled i hadnt updated livejournal in a long time. since my last update, i think i have managed to land another job. a return to working in a sales orientated software company. and i am loving it. i feel °stability° coming back into my career, which is what i need. i love it there. i hope it works out.
i also remembered that i still owe cheryl a giant koala bear. i think its been an undelivered promise for over 3 years. cheryl if you are reading this, pop me an email with your current address to nigelhedges AT optusnet DOT com DOT au , and this time theres no excuse. as i pass through the airport duty free, i wont be able to miss the stuffed toys, and i will ensure i get you one hehe
oh boy. well, not much else to report. yet anyway. i am sure i will, because i have taken a gazillion photos here. i will have to pop a few up.
