So I went to an Apple(TM)-themed
conference this week because the person for whom a ticket was bought couldn't make it.
Lessons learned:
1. The Apple(TM) World(TM) is still full of evangelistic wankers. I was wishing I'd brought in the chunky old Dell laptop at one point just to see what peoples' reactions would be.
2. The most interesting things people had to talk about were either
mostly about the social and behvioural implications of technology more than technology itself or
relevant to more than just the apple devices using the technology.
3. I now see where the "Tech conferences are full of sexism" vibe is coming from. Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't think that a 3-minute talk which is just listing the methods in Cocoa that can be incorporated into dick jokes is acceptable and I certainly don't believe that it should be encouraged by giving the presenter an award for it.
