I've been worrying that my soup-making
fairy has ditched ME. I've been cooking frantically in an effort to stock the freezer to make life easier when Babyfer is born. But all recent soups have been marred by a certain amount of ineptitude. Tough meat. Off flavors. Hard beans. They aren't inedible. I just don't love them, nor does my wife. I want soup we love. I want soup I'd be proud to serve to others. Clearly busy-ness, tiredness and distraction are to blame. But I'd rather blame my fairy.
Meanwhile, because I'm insane, I've started making chicken stock while wretchedly tired from a late night and too-early morning. If I had started in the morning I wouldn't be thinking that I'm crazy. But no, I started this instead of properly starting supper. At least I'm following a recipe to lend some coherence to a project otherwise marred by bad judgment. Figure that I can take the meat out when it is tender, and then sleep while the bones and skin and broth are cooking down into something richer. Actual soup creation can happen tomorrow when I have presumably had more sleep.
At least the reason for lack of sleep is a fun one.
Broadside Electric put on a good show last night.
Today we went through our current baby supplies in anticipation of future shopping trips. We acquired some things this week, thanks to
The Nesting House and Target and I feel much better. Babyfer is not going to be naked all the time. Just sometimes. Alas, instead of sleeping soundly as a result, I'm imagining dressing and cuddling baby-to-be when I really ought to be unconscious.
Duckies! I really like the yellow duckies. Chickies are pretty good too. The heck with gendered clothes, we're raising our child to be a domestic bird.
Yesterday we also went to a birthday party, at which I made my lovely love hold a 2 month old baby. She had not done so before. I too held the baby, but my baby-holding experiences started in the second year of my life.
We also got to talk to someone just one week more pregnant (expecting twins!). That was fun.
Much delayed work on the house is scheduled in part for late this week. Must finish the scheduling, so that we can get the room put together.
Yikes. We're at 34 weeks. Babyfer's arrival is looming.
