I've been seeing this all over my flist so I decided to give it a go. It's the meme where you open your WIP folder and give the titles/descriptions and then snippets on request.

Temeraire - Christmas

Here's the Temeraire Christmas-fic excerpt! Which is pretty much nothing, but there you are.

Evening was approaching, the red sun just dipping behind the glistening waves. Laurence leaned against the rail of the Allegiance, absently flipping through the pages of the book in his hands.

“I did not know we were supposed to give you presents.”

Laurence stumbled a bit as a large snout nudged him in the back, then turned to see a large sapphire eye watching him.

“Presents?” Laurence said, rather startled.

“I saw Granby give you a package earlier today,” Temeraire said. “It had a bow on it and he looked very pleased with himself.” He blinked suddenly, looking nervous. “I did not forget your birthday, did I?”

“No, my dear,” Laurence said, smiling. “It’s Christmas Eve. Granby just got ahead of himself, that’s all.”

“Oh.” Temeraire sounded relieved. “I have heard the crew talking about Christmas. I did not know it involved presents. That makes it much more interesting.”

“Christmas is not simply about presents, Temeraire,” Laurence said, unable to refrain from smiling at the dragon’s new enthusiasm.

Temeraire cocked his head to one side. “Oh? Then what is it about?”

And then my plot bunnies died a little. Except I know that Granby is going to be adorable and embarrassed about getting Laurence a present and Temeraire will call him out on it.
