This weekend I went to Michigan...it was, um, interesting. And did anyone else know there's a town in Michigan called GAYLORD?!! I didn't and I was rather amused by this. Heh.
Here is a "pictorial commentary" or actually a "photo log" of the weekend.
Woke up at 5am and left at 6am. AHH! I am SO not a morning person!
SATURDAY
We crossed the border around noon.
And here's the first thing we saw once we crossed the border to Michigan.
We went to an outlet shopping place. It had tons of stores. One of them was
Pac Sun which had a lot of nice clothes. Clothes that you'd find in West 49 and Boathouse. BUT EVERYTHING WAS BLOODY EXPENSIVE! And here I was thinking "outlet stores" were cheaper, guess not.
I also went to a store called American Outpost which has clothes like American Eagle I guess and bought a hoodie. We don't have American Outpost here so I feel good that I won't be wearing the exact same clothes as someone else in my class (as that is oftentimes the case!). I also bought a Sony Digital Recorder for $20 US for lectures...as I have always planned to buy but was too cheap to. Now I can hit record and go nap during the lectures. YAY!
AND DID YOU KNOW THERE'S A TOWN CALLED GAYLORD?!! I surely didn't. But what a funny name for a town. We stopped by a McDonald's in Gayload and there were some HAWT guys working there. There was a cute guy who I saw in the kitchen area, but I think he was gay...
Blah, saw a lotta this.
Then we crossed a HUGEEEEE, freakishly long and narrow bridge. I looked over the edge and I felt as though we would tip over.
And then we reached the other end in one piece. YAY!
Later that night we went to
Kewadin Casinos. We got this coupon thing that was good for $10 worth of tokens for the slot machines. I tried to cash in my coupon but then they asked for my drivers license, and because I was 4 months away from turning 21 years old, they wouldn't let me. The lady even said I shouldn't even be in there. BUT I CAN LEGALLY GAMBLE IN CANADA! And I'm pretty much 21 anyways. Bah. My mom let me have half of her tokens she got and I played the slots. Fuck, I suck at gambling. I didn't even win a QUARTER! Nothing! I then started using my own money to play the slots and I lost $1.50 (US!) playing a $0.25 machine. Gah.
We ended up in some town called St Ignatius where it had great scenery but only motels there.
The stupid tour guide lady booked us a cheap cheap disgusting motel called "Sands Motel". It was like the ghetto. This was some run down abandoned place beside the motel.
This was inside the room of the motel. MY GAWD was it horrible. This is the corner where I found this creepy spider! A SPIDER!! IT WAS REALLY BIG TOO! Who would've known I'd have to bring the
Spider Blaster with me!
And it also stunk in there. You know when you go to historical buildings like Parliament building or Anne of Green Gable's house in P.E.I. (if you've ever been)... or etc. Anything "aged" smelling, this room smelt like it. It also had tons of spider webs everywhere. Also there was no water pressure so I opted on not taking a shower that night. Plus we ran out of toilet paper as they only gave us half a roll.
*And oh yes, that's the pillow I brought with me on the Ottawa trip for those of you who went (which would be just one of you).
This is our room at night.
The motel from the outside, at 6 am.
SUNDAY
Woke up at 6 am the next day to
catch a boat to
Mackinac Island. We got to see the sunrise too on the boat, it was purty.
Pretty enough to take a few pictures.
Here's some lighthouse on Mackinac Island.
A picture of the sunrise from the island.
Mackinac Island is pretty spiffy. There's a law that prohibits any vehicles on the island. The ONLY way to get around is by bicycle, horse or a horse drawn carriage. So there's a lot of horse poop everywhere. And also a lot of fudge being sold every other store. There's also a law that states if you pick ANYTHING from nature, even a dandilion, you are fined $50.
Here are some ducks... (with a lotta bikes which you can rent in the background)
Then some seagulls...
Then the seagulls started attacking the ducks!! For food!
What's a big landmark on the island is the
Grand Hotel. They filmed a couple of movies here. I can't remember the names but one of them is a classic I believe. It costs a LOT of money per night. The very cheapest is
$199 per person a night. Also, they had signs up that said:
Guests must wear formal attire after 6 p.m. Jackets and ties for men, and dresses or dress pants for ladies are required.
Heh.
A closer look. Swanky.
Then we took a carriage tour. It was a long tour that was split into 2 parts. First part we went around the downtown area with 2 medium sized horses. Then the 2nd part we went around Mackinac Island state park there with 3 gigantic horses. This particular picture is from the 2nd portion, and right after the horse did a #1as you can see from the picture. The guy who did the 2nd part was really cute. He is from Canada too, lives in Windsor most of the year while going to university to become a police officer. I sat in the front and he kept turning around to talk to me but I was a dork and sorta froze up. Boo. Also while sitting in the front, the horse on the right (where I was!!!) had a huge "gas problem" and it was quite disgusting. :s
We then went to a thing called "Arched Rock". It has a big arch in the rock...thus, "arched rock". Brilliant!
Anyway, later that day we went to another outlet shopping center where I bought some Gap Scents sprays.
We got home late last night and then today, it's back to uni with classes starting up again. Crap the place is literary packed with 1st year students. I could barely walk from point a to point b without almost walking into someone. Damn double cohort. Ugh.
