day on earth

I've found something great (again), and I'd like to share it with you. The day on earth lj community is much more efficient than actual travel: it's free, takes virtually no time, and it's, well, almost as good :)

The concept, a daily photo from somewhere in the world, sounds too simple to be good, but actually I find it really fascinating and compelling. Even just scrolling down the first page, you get pictures ranging from the Moscow subway and winter in Scandinavia to summer in the southern hemisphere and a cowboy in the USA. It's the simple things of life that you take for granted when you're living somewhere, like people washing their hands outside a shrine in Kyoto and a Hanukkah menora in a windowsill in Tel Aviv. And this peek into daily life around the world is exactly what I like so much about traveling. Yay!
