O______________O.

*shameless grabby hands*

I'm restraining myself from setting forth a stream of awestruck swearing. One day when I have an actual income, I'm totally going to commission The One Ring from you done this way. Seriously.

Yay, grabby hands :D *is complimented*

For you, my dear, I will happily work for free. What would you like? Do you mean the illustration of the ring with the trees? I'm a bit fuzzy, haven't looked at it for ages, but I think I know the one you mean? A frame might be a bit of a nightmare to post though, I wouldn't wager a tin cent that it'd get there intact. You might have to have a look around second hand stores for an appropriately beaten up one :)

Oh, honey, that kind of artwork I would happily pay for!!! That is AMAZEBALLS. It must have taken you for stinking EVER. I'm having visions of this as the cut-out across a text from LotR. (I know, meh, Elvish, no big deal, lol!) How awesome would that be?!

Lol "amazeballs" is a new one, I may steal it.
The cutout was actually the simplest part, it doesn't take that long once I have the image sorted and traced onto the black paper (OMG white transfer paper, my Most Favourite Thing EVAR!!!1one!1!)

I'm sure I could do the ring, I'd need to hunt down and fiddle with an image with clearer text than that one, but definitely do-able :) It might need to be large-ish, otherwise you'd lose detail in the text, I can cut small, but not really really small (like this: http://scissorsandpaperrock.blogspot.com/2009/10/hina-aoyama.html I look at this woman's work and part of me curls up in a corner and whimpers, because I will never, ever be this amazing. Seriously. Hand cut, with fricking SCISSORS *gazes in awe*) I'm also pretty sure I could find a font that resembles JRR's handwriting for the background, it must exist, people are scary fannish about that sort of thing :p

Holy crapsticks, those cut-out words make my brain explode. If you gave me the rest of my life, I would never have the patience to do that. But yours is so much cooler. The combination of that iconic image of Alice playing croquet with the flamingo laid over the text, it's so incredibly powerful. It just makes me want to drop whatever I'm doing and run to my bookshelf to snatch down Lewis Carroll and have a read. The thing I love best about yours is the way the tiny details of your cuts -- like down at the bottom, the little tufts of grass -- make it look at first as if the image itself is in grey-scale, with shading. It's so three-dimensional.

If you have any interest in or desire to do the Ring, holler at me and let me know how much you'd be interested in selling such a glorious thing for. Sincerely, it would be such a treasure, you can't imagine. ♥

Correction: hedgehogs! Not tufts of grass! (This is what happens when I don't go back and look again before I start blathering.)

Lol, it's ok, they are very tufty hedgehogs. Some of the greyscale thing might also come from actual shadows, because it's raised slightly off the paper with little bits of sticky foam :)

I'd love to do the ring project, and as I said, I couldn't possibly charge you money for it. Just tell me what page of text you want in the background, and if there are any specific bits of text you want visible (bits of it will fall off the sides if you want it on the same sort of slope, it's not a complete page, but I can shuffle the font size and spacing about to stop the bits you want falling off...and doesn't *that* sound wrong :p)

Edit: Also, with that teeny-tiny writing I linked to, if you have time have a browse through the rest of that blog, there are some pretty cool things in there. :)

So I've been thinking about it, and I think my favorite lines from all of LotR are the exchange between Frodo and Elrond at the Council of Elrond (it's the last page of that chapter in my edition of FotR):

An overwhelming longing to rest and remain at peace by Bilbo's side in Rivendell filled all his heart. At last with an effort he spoke, and wondered to hear his own words, as if some other will was using his small voice.
'I will take the Ring,' he said, 'though I do not know the way.'
Elrond raised his eyes and looked at him, and Frodo felt his heart pierced by the sudden keenness of the glance. 'If I understand aright all that I have heard,' he said, 'I think that this task is appointed for you, Frodo; and that if you do not find a way, no one will. This is the hour of the Shire-folk, when they arise from their quiet fields to shake the towers and counsels of the Great. Who of all the Wise could have foreseen it?...' (etc ( ... )

Cool :) Like I said, most of the page will be included, because otherwise the text would be too big, it'd look odd. But I'll do my best to have those bits in particular somewhere visible :) I don't know when I'll have this finished, but I'll start on it soon! I love the idea :D Are you happy with the same colours as the Alice one? Cream paper, brown ink, and a black ring?

Absolutely -- I love the Alice one's colors, they're beautifully antique-looking. And please, there's NO rush or anything! Believe me, since I started knitting, I understand how something that is huge fun can suddenly become a miserable un-fun job when you feel any kind of deadline-y pressure. (Speaking of... Christmas is coming and my fingers need to get busy on those needles. *sigh*) So, y'know, 2012-ish is good for me. :)
