So I joined a gym and saved about $100 bucks by paying more up front.  Seriously, I did the math.  The best advert. plan they have is you pay $199 and $44 a month.  The one I got was you pay $299 up front and only $24.99 a month.  You, as a new member, also get 1 free personal trainer session.  So I did mine.  John was awesome, and even though he tried to sell me on this ridiculously expensive training package (I'd be paying like $200 extra every month!), he was OK when I said I wanted to wait on making a decision.  He didn't try to convince me more, which was nice.  Our focus the 30? minutes we were working out was legs.  OMG!

So he says we're going to do 10-20 (today just 10) different activities that will work on my legs (and 1 or 2 just for abs because those are "fun" to work on).  So on activity 7, I totally fell on my ass.  He asked me to step up (one foot then the other) and then down off of a stack of 6 aerobic "box" things.  It wasn't too high.  I was supposed to do this for 3 minutes.  Except on the 1st one I stepped up one foot at a time and when I went down my leg didn't want to hold my fat ass up, so I fell.  He was pretty happy that we'd already reached Total Muscle Failure.  According to John, it's better to do less and reach TMF than a lot of easier stuff.  Last night my legs were sore (you know the type, hard to sit down, trouble with going down stairs), but today my abs are sore and even my shoulders (but those might be sore from sleeping funny?)!  Tomorrow I'm going to go work on my back and hopefully do some cardio.  It's nice that you can join any class at anytime without paying for it or having to sign up.

Also, I'm sure others know, but I didn't, John said it was more important to do weight training than cardio.  He said the 1lb of muscle will burn 50 cal. a day on it's own, and if I put on 10lbs of muscle (which means losing about 20lbs) then I'd burn a pound of fat a week just sitting on my ass!  He also said that cardio destroys muscle (because its oxygen deprivation) and that if you build muscle (even to just being lean and not a body builder type) that you don't really need to do cardio!  But I love my running, so I'll never give that up, but I'll have to definitely shift my focus to weights, which is pretty much why I needed the gym.  John also told me about protein powders and fat burners, etc.  We'll see what I find.  I'm OK with the protein stuff because I rarely eat meat and I know I'm not getting enough and that my muscles will need it.  He said to do this fat burning stuff for a week and then stop for like 2-3 and go back on it for a week, etc.  If I can find the trusted brands he pointed out to me, I might try them.
