The difference between college and professionals

So today wasn't all that exciting. I mostly read technical papers. They hold my interest more than anything else I would read, but reading for 9 hours is still reading for 9 hours. However, today, when i stopped into PRSE to fill out time cards, I was told by my boss to come back around 11 if i'm not busy. Chris and I are at PRSA for the week seeing how it is there. Our boss said that there is a UCI inspection meeting at 11 that he would like us to go to if we can, but its manditory for the branch. This is the inspection that has been pleaguing the branch for a while, and everyone will be so happy with when its over in like 2 weeks. But it was optional for me. I was told back at PRSA to skip it, anything dealing with the inspection sucks. However, I kinda wanted to know what everyone was bitching about since I got there, and I was sick of reading, I wanted something real to do, even if it sucked, it gave me a chance to get out of the desk.
So me and chris went back to PRSE and when the whole group was assembled in the meeting area, our boss told us since we have all been in somewhat good spirt about the UCI inspection, he is taking us all out to lunch. He said the reason he disguised it as a UCI inspection meeting is so that everyone would come. Now that just blew my mind. Because I would think, people would try to get out of it, saying they are too busy. But my boss told me that when he offers free lunch, some people will say they are too busy and pass it up. Of course, me being in college, the ability to pass up free food is just foreign to me.
