A multi-part fannish post

1. On my quest to spam my flist with brilliant acting/directing/cinematography/FX/etc., I bring you a clip from today's episode of Merlin "The Eye of the Phoenix".

~SPOILERS~

The set-up: Merlin confiscates a bracelet from Morgana that drains the life out of the person who wears it, and Arthur sets out on a quest to find the Fisher King's trident in order to prove he's worthy of the crown. Gwaine and Merlin tag along, and Merlin does some dragon-y things! This scene begins at the moment Merlin discovers the Fisher King

This scene is so captivating yet muted. I love that every episode furthers Arthur or Merlin in becoming the great legends they're known as today. There's not much for me to go on about with this scene except that I enjoy and am moved by it, the make-up and costuming is fantastic for the Fisher King, and the directing is stunning. The first time I watched the fisher king drop the trident, I gasped, and there was something so beautifully ceremonial in how Merlin knelt before the him and placed the bracelet on his wrist. It almost felt like an echo in the time and space continuum of what is to come between Arthur and Merlin, and I almost wanted Merlin to kiss the bracelet or to bow to the king upon first realizing who he was. But then again, Merlin never has been good with showing deference. That ghostly "Thank you" was just... wow.

2. Even if you don't watch Glee, I want you to see this fanvid made by vmars77. Glee isn't always successful at pulling off its storylines, but I always find it entertaining or in part captivating. S2E04 "Duets" is probably one of my favorite episodes of the show. All the relationships seemed the believable, the song selection was relevant, and it showcased a wide range of talent.

Vmars77's vid is set to a surprising(!) and fantastic acoustic mash-up of Bieber's "Baby," Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girl," and Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" and seems to encompass everything nostalgic and bittersweet about high school. Not that it matters because I think it's easy enough to follow along without much background, but featured ships in this episode/vid include: Brittany/Santana, Rachel/Finn, Kurt/Sam, Mike/Tina, Brittany/Artie, Sam/Quinn, and Artie/Tina--AND YES. These are all ships that happened in the show. In this single episode.

This episode was the first time I felt Rachel and Finn were good for each other. I'm glad to see more depth between Brittany and Santana--even if at the moment it seems one-sided (ilu Brit!), and Tina and Mike's relationship felt so... real in the way that they bickered about artificial things. Don't even get me started on the Kurt and Sam stuff. I'm glad Kurt realized his previous behavior towards Finn was over-the-top, but I wish it hadn't been at the cost of his happiness doing a duet with Sam. Regardless of whether or not Sam and Kurt are endgame, I want Sam to continue being that open, honest and supportive boy we discovered in this episode. Also, I heart his nerdiness, and I'll probably be shot for saying this, but yes, I found Sam and Quinn to be cute together. Not life-altering, but more alluring than Finn and Rachel, which is pretty sad since those two are supposed to be the 'it' couple of the show.

Sigh. Glee.
