What are these?

I went out to the beach this morning and was surprised to see how much seaweed had washed up on the sand. But more puzzling to me were these... whatever they are. I poked at one with a stick and it popped and shriveled up. What are these? They're all over. They're creepy.

Added: They're the remains of Portuguese men of wars. CLOSE THE BEACH!!!!!!
