Fiber arts workshops at Folklore Village

Stitch, Spindle and Skein! Saturday, May 15 9:00 am - 4:15 pm

Catch a case of the warm fuzzies! Wrap your fingers in fibers and your mind in exciting techniques during the workshops listed below. The day features workshops (you pick two!) and a lunch presentation of the stunning ethnic costume collection held by Michael Kuharski and Nancy Yugo. Bring your own sack lunch.

A. Bosnian Crochet w/Kim Caisse -- Traditionally used in Bosnia, this form of crochet (also called slip stitch) may represent the oldest form of crochetknown in the world. No prior knitting or crochet experience needed. Materials provided. $2 material fee.

B. Nålbinding w/Peter Gorman -- Learn this ancient technique for making textiles without a loom in which yarn is looped and interlocked using a hand-carved wooden needle. Materials provided. You may purchase the needle for $8.

C. Spinning w/Alicia Rheal -- Conquer your fears and satisfy your curiosity about using drop spindles and spinning wheels. Learn the basics of spinning your own fibers into handcrafted yarns for your projects! You can even build your own drop spindle! Bring your own wool or purchase some here.

D. Wool Jewelry w/Kriss Marion -- Make everything from embellished fluff flower pins to tiny sheep earrings. Your imagination is the limit! Learn both wet and dry felting and experiment with wool in a variety of forms including wool locks, prepared rovings and hand-spun yarns. Materials provided. $8 material fee.

You must register in advance. Choose two workshops:
