Maybe these teachers and librarians and so forth should figure out how they can teach their students/patrons to sort good information from bad information. That's the key. They can't turn back time and make everyone ignore the internet, but they can certainly tell kids things like, "Don't find just one link. You have to find several reputable sites that say the same thing before you can trust the information." That's what I do. They could also make a habit of pointing out which sites are reliable and say why they are reliable.
In other words, people need to be educated about online information sources, and they need to be taught critical thinking. As long as you have that and a good grounding in basic information, you can navigate the seas of information without getting lost.
