Now with extra cancer

Dear god I hate the first week back at uni. There's too fucking many people on campus and so many of them are first years who have absolutely no clue about anything at all. There were LINES to get into the Tav today and everyone was being checked for ID. I mean seriously, that never happens unless there's like an event or something happening, and often not even then. Even the common room was chock full, like it never is, half full of first years who I swear look about 15.

Then your timetable lies to you and you spend ages wandering around a building trying to find a room number that doesn't exist before stumbling upon the right class. Then there's the first classes where lecturers try to get the class to get to know each other like we're in primary school. God seriously. I fucking hate first week. No wonder I avoid it like the plague every semester. Oh don't even get me started on parking, so glad I didn't pay for it and park off campus where it's just a very short walk and there's always a spot.

Anyway, yesterday (Tuesday) was Print Production day - what will usually be a four-hour workshop including editorial meeting and InDesign tutorial. Fortunately a I know a lot of basic InDesign already from stuff last year so I'll have a head start. Roles for the first issue were allocated and I am chief sub-editor which basically means I and the other chief sub run the whole damn class (which is absolutely massive, btw), do rosters for production, edit front pages, light fires under people when they fuck up, etc. I'm second only to the damn lecturer. Awesome. There's also no less than 90 P213 students this semester, so we'll get up to 180 stories to sort through each edition. Wowsers. It's going to rock hardcore even during the few weeks I'll have no life.

Dad and I then saw Jumper that night. It's just as terrible as the critics said and Hayden Christensen still can't act. However the concept was kinda cool and you did get to see a teleporting double-decker bus used as a weapon awesomely. But overall, rather underwhemling with zero cinematic value.

Today Cairo and I had Geopolitics. I decided spending two hours drinking with a few high school mates randomly on campus at the Tav beforehand was a good idea. Probably helped me survive what was an incredibly boring two hours. The lecturer also looks about 25 and is clearly a surfie stoner right down to the hair and rolled up shirt sleeves. We always get the stoners! Not sure how this unit is going to go, assessments don't seem like a huge deal at least. Went to Sami's afterwards and we watched random TV and discussed the benefits and perils of universal immortality.

Tomorrow is 9am appointment followed by coffee followed by going to uni to talk to some people followed by either poker or something ad-hoc from uni. Meaning I should go to bed now.
