It is a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. The October sunshine is mild, a gentle breeze makes the mid-60s temperature quite nice. Perfect weather to find a pumpkin (or better still, pumpkins) for my front porch. The trees barely have any color to them with all the leaves still green from summer. Every single time I see leaves falling in the wind, I smile. It's almost involuntary but the sight makes me happy. Every single time.
It's little moments like seeing random leaves tumble down or the faint scent of campfire smoke. Or Pumpkin Spice cookies, coffee, muffins, anything. They all make me happy.
For the first time in my life, I get to plant flowers in October. Not bulbs for spring but actual flowers - pansies in a variety of color and other annuals that get planted for the winter. Even after two years of living down here, the prospect of winter flowers still hasn't lost its novelty.
Today as I left the library, I took a moment to enjoy the many varieties of flowers still blooming and colorful. Fat bees bobbed up and down from plant to plant. Another tiny moment that made me smile.
My dogs are loving their newfound freedom of the fenced-in backyard. They love not having the restriction of leash and harness. Me too. As they enjoy the sunshine, they frolic. Until they spy the rabbit. Then it's on. A race to catch it (they never will). I just like to sit and watch. I laugh at them.
It's not a day of any significance but that is just fine with me.
