Home Sweet Home

A week and a half now in the new house and it has been awesome. I love, love, love, it there! The dogs are happy and have adjusted very well to their new digs. They seem so happy to run in the big backyard. Earlier this week, I cleaned the last of the apartment and closed it up for good. Another chapter done. I lived there for two years and it was my special haven, the first place I called home when I moved to North Carolina. I will miss my old neighbors but after meeting my new ones, I know I have found a great place.

As you can imagine, the past two weeks have been a whirlwind of activity. I have the bruises all over my arms to show for it. Collapsing into bed each night from physical exhaustion has felt good though. I know I promised photos but I have not a moment's peace yet. My house is crammed with stuffed boxes, stacked on top of each other in every room. I now work to put things in their rightful place.

Every day I discover something new I love about the house. Things only living here can show. My Taurus side has been full in force making this place mine and finding beauty in it all. So in no particular order, a random rambling of what I love...

The morning sunrise comes through my bedroom window and I can watch the sunset from my couch. I love the direction my house faces. I can watch the storm clouds roll in. In the evening, Cricket likes to lay in the slant of sunshine coming through the front door and chew her bone (while barking at random things). Outside the sky is wide above me, a great expanse that in the middle of the night, allows me to see stars I haven't seen in a long time.

Yes, I am out in the "country". I pass (small) corn fields on my way to work. Corn fields remind me of Indiana but still have a North Carolina feel to them. I like the blend. And early in the morning, I can hear a distant rooster crow.

I have "water-front" property. Okay, not really but I do have a moat. It's a storm drainage ditch but the way it snakes around my property, after a heavy rain, it can definitely be a moat. You can race boats on it, I'm told. I plan to test that out one day (while watching out for clowns in storm drains). The best part is the little bridge built over it. It's charming and Cricket is fascinated by it. If we walk near it, she runs to it and crosses over it. I named it "Cricket's Bridge".

The landscaping around the property was designed for "natural" privacy. I am still trying to figure out what all the bushes and plants are. I can't wait until next year when they bloom. Actually I am looking forward to autumn for all the colors. It promises to be spectacular.

I have the perfect little porch for a rocking chair. I need a white comfy rocking chair. Preferably one like my mother's, one that I can spend hours reading in it. Ah, yes. That would be lovely. A book and coffee. Or a glass of wine to end the day.

Many projects on my plate now so I never need to fear boredom. :)
