Cold Feet?

Title: Cold Feet?
Pairing: Sandeul/Baro (friends?)
Rating: G
Summary: A few weeks before their official debut, a B1A4 member goes missing. Is it nerves?

"Sorry, but we don't have anyone by that name in our registry." the lady at the dorm said as she closes the file with the names of the dorm occupants.

Stepping out of the building, Sandeul heaved out a sigh as he crossed out the fifth dorm from the list on his mobile phone. He’s also crossed out three saunas with rooms, four apartments, two rented houses, and two consecutive days on the calendar. There are some more dorms on the other end of the university area that he can check out. His feet hurt but he doesn’t want to stop. Baro has got to be somewhere in Seoul.

They were reluctant to contact his family at first. But a phone call from his mom asking how he is (they said he was sleeping very soundly) confirms that the rapper has really gone missing. Their manager advised them not to worry while he looks for possible hideouts. But two days with no sign of Baro got all the members searching as well. They went in pairs; Jinyoung and CNU, Gongchan and their manager were looking at different parts of the city. Sandeul was left on his own, walking around, checking every possible place that Baro could have used for shelter.

As far as they were concerned, there was no definite reason for Baro’s disappearance. It happened after a regular practice day when they’ve seen the very first physical copy for their debut mini album. They woke up the next morning to find a note just saying “Sorry. L” on his bed. Could it be that their rapper was thinking of quitting? Sandeul didn’t want to look at it that way. But running out of places to visit, the possibility of cold feet was looking more like a fact.

B1A4 was just weeks away from their debut and this could not be happening, Sandeul thought. He checked Baro’s minihompy, Facebook, Twitter, and every other account on the internet for any update (he was hoping for a “check-in” so all his troubles will be over), occasionally coming across the long-forgotten/abandoned ones but the last post made was five days ago.

He’s never been out into the city alone for a longer time; he admits that at this point he doesn’t have any idea where Baro is. He’s getting really tired and even if their manager would scold them for it, he wants some rest. If he could just teleport back to the dorm or into a hotel… room.

He stops at an intersection and looks at his surroundings. There were two hotels on the adjacent road, both looking quite expensive, but they’re on Hyatt’s. Thinking that this could be a sign, he tries his luck on the first one that looked relatively new (there was a sign saying “Now ready to indulge you!”.

You know that saying that goes “what you’ve been looking for may just be right in front of you”? Well in Sandeul’s case, it was on his left. While trying to fish for information from the receptionist at the front desk, someone appeared beside him and asked for his key. Sandeul could not have mistaken that deep voice with a weird rasp for someone else’s.

“Sunwoo!” He shouted, shocking the receptionist and effectively, the guy to his left, as he heard his real name from someone he was avoiding. They looked at each other in a manner that could pass as a staring contest between two long-lost relatives (or lovers) while their life before that flashes back. Sandeul would eventually win though as Baro broke the moment and made a run for the elevator. Thankfully, Sandeul was quick to think and followed suit, throwing himself and grabbing hold of the other guy’s leg just before his second step into the lift.

“Let me go!” Baro shouted, attempting to shake himself off of Sandeul’s koala grip.

“We’re a team Sunwoo! Don’t quit now!” Sandeul pleaded, desperate to get his fellow member back to the dorm. He stood up and held Baro on the shoulders.

“We’re almost there Sunwoo! This is our dream, and it’s going to happen! It’s happening right now!” He was close to tears, trying to keep his composure as he appeals his case. He’s not letting cold feet ruin their debut.

“Junghwan,” Baro looked straight into Sandeul’s eyes.

“Junghwan, I’m not quitting.”

After a few seconds of waiting for the news to sink in, Sandeul’s face lost its look of desperation, and replaced with furrowed eyes and a pout as he attempts to connect things, but nothing comes off of it.

“Then why did you run away?”

“I wanted to try this hotel! I told you I won discount vouchers but you all thought I was faking it. And since no one believed in me, I redeemed the prize myself.” Baro said accusingly and matter-of-factly.

“So all this time you were just here? You leave the dorm with a vague note, turn off your phone, had everyone looking all over for you, and checked into a hotel without telling anyone?”

“Mhmm.” Sandeul nodded. “That’s punishment for not believing in me, and you even said that we’re a team! You know, they have this big Infiniti pool that’s all the rage in hotels right now. I still have one night left and you’re not allowed because you called me a fraud!”

The elevator doors were still waiting, and as Baro was getting on, Sandeul grabbed on his arm and pushed his way in. There’s no way he’s letting Baro use the expensive hotel suite for ½ off just for himself.

And besides, he’s already too embarrassed to face the staff on the ground floor after causing such a scene.
