Any Colin Singletons out there?

Or at least a math whiz?

So yesterday I stayed until two in the morning working on The Theorem.

What's that? You don't know what The Theorem is? In that case, you should seriously read An Abundance of Katherines.

Don't make John's coming to my blog post a waste of time. READ IT.

So anyway, the Theorem (full name- The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability) basically says that you can put any two people into a formula and see how long their relationship will last. It's an actual formula that was written by Daniel Biss (world famous nerdfighter mathematician) for the book. And here it is.

(Daunting, isn't it?)

So I was plugging in a bunch of my favorite bandom pairings, but I could only get so far because of the matrix at the end.

(Circled for your convenience. 8D)

The furthest I got when I tried solving the function (plugging in numbers for x) was a number, and then two numbers inside the matrix. My question is what do I do with those two numbers? And how do I graph the function? My graphing calculator won't accept the formula, and I think it's because of the matrix.

Any help is appreciated! Remember, this is for bandom and slashery! >3
