Yuletide Recs Galore: Part 1

Dec 28, 2011 18:13

Ack, I feel like I've fallen behind a bit with my Yuletide recs this year. I plead too much time reading and shopping and not enough time to actually sit down and write an entry. Well, until now. Hopefully, some of these stories will be new to you and that you'll enjoy them as much as I did. :)

The Avengers (2012 movie)
Pigeonville, USA by Anonymous (Clint Barton/Phil Coulson, implied Steve Rogers/Tony Stark; 3181 words). This has already been recced everywhere, but I can't help chiming in with how much I love this delightful story. It's the West Wing and Avengers fusion I never knew I wanted and now can't live without.

Yes, Tony Stark, There Is A Santa Claus by Anonymous (Steve Rogers/Tony Stark; 3104 words). Someone finally teaches Steve how to dance, and it's not who you think. Heart-warming fluff of the highest order.

Better Off Ted
Careful the Path They Take (Ted Crisp/Veronica Palmer; 4077 words). Veronica and Rose spend some time together, Rose's induction to minionhood, and Veronica discovers something unexpected about herself. Adorable and off-kilter like the show.

Captive Prince
Kings by Anonymous (Damen/Laurent; 10240 words; warning for canonical child abuse and mention of incest). A wonderful(ly long) story about how it could all end with a wonderful twist along the way and Laurent and Damen being badasses.

Friday Night Lights
Mother of the Bride by Anonymous (Eric Taylor/Tami Taylor, Matt Saracen/Julie Taylor; 1404 words). This story is a beautiful snapshot that captures everything I love about FNL. Namely, the relationships between the characters and the changes we all go through. Like the summary said, "Little earthquakes."

Sense and Sensibility
New Possibilities by Anonymous (Gen; 1306 words). Summary: The young Miss Dashwood's friendship with her brother-in-law bears unexpected fruits. Lovely and a perfect end (and beginning) to Margaret's story.

Temeraire
The Constraint of Conscience  by Anonymous (William Laurence/Tharkay; rated Explicit; 6005 words). Dear god, this was hot. And perfectly in character. And so so hot. Did I mention the hotness? I find the ending a bit unsatisfying and ambiguous, but only because I'm a sucker for the "And they shacked up and lived happily ever after and adopted some (dragon) babies" type ending.

Weekend (2011 movie)
you cannot conquer time by Anonymous (Glen/Russell, Russell/OMC; 15029 words). Weekend was absolutely one of my favorite films this year, and I was overjoyed to see that not only had someone requested it as a fandom but that this author had written such a long, honest, and beautiful exploration of the world and the relationships from Weekend. I don't think you need to have seen the movie to read this, only the basic background knowledge that Glen and Russell spent 48 hours together before the former left the UK for the US, a kind of Before Sunrise for two gay blokes in England. This story is about what happens after. Absolutely wonderful.

Wicked Gentlemen
Bliss is an Abyss by Anonymous (William Harper/Belimai Sykes; rated Explicit; 1392 words). A lovely coda to the book with a wonderful Belimai voice. And I'm just so so happy that someone wrote Wicked Gentlemen fic!

Next time: Community, Leviathan, and Once Upon A Time. Enjoy!

yuletide, recs
