An update on our BLW journey!

Our little H is already 14 months old!  How time is flying by!  I still (to the horror of HVs everywhere) breastfeed him on cue and he takes milk about three times during the day and every 2 hours at night.  As I am now pregnant, the milk is drying up especially with the frequency of night feeding so he sometimes just has water and back rubs in the early hours of the morning.  He learnt to sign milk!  However when he first learnt to sign milk he not only used it for milk but for anything everyone else was eating and drinking.

H is now using bowls and plates as standard at meal times now.  We started with suction bowls but quickly realised he was far too interested in the food to mess with the plate and bowls so we now don't bother.  It's great as I don't always need to use the tray anymore and can pull him up to the table with me.  Also great for eating out as not everywhere has a highchair with a tray.

He started using a fork surprisingly competantly.  I help him by showing how to stab food and then he has a good go himself.  Spoons are still a bit hit and miss.  He can use them easily if they are loaded but loading them is so difficult for him.  He has been known to hold a spoon in one hand and pick up cheerios with the other.

He is still a good eater - I do not worry if he refuses a particular food or is not hungry.  I am still happy to let him lead me on this journey.  Since he is now one I am more relaxed about salt and sugar.  Not that he has a salty diet but if he steals one of Ashley's crisps I don't feel guilty all day.  He also steals all sorts of sugary snacks from his aunty and uncles so I just ensure his teeth get a good brush and on the days when we don't see them he doesn't seem bothered.  Ninety odd percent of what he eats is healthy and nutritious and what more can I ask for?
