Most of you know Vicki. Short, red hair, pretty face? But do you know the Vicki that lurks behind all that? That Vicki isn't so pretty. It is the perverse side of the woman I love. Lies and manipulation abound.
Today I got an e-mail from her regarding payment of $10,500.00. This debt is not something she lent to me, rather, it is something Vicki's parents lent to her so that we could put some money down on the house I bought. Vicki led her parents to believe her name would be on the house's title. Vicki allowed me to believe her parents were aware her name was *not* going to be on the title. So, her parents lent $10,000.00 under false pretenses, and I agreed to allow Vicki to accept their $10,000.00, but under false pretenses.
By "false pretense" I mean "lie."
As many of you know by now, Vicki and I split up almost a month ago. The whole relationship became far too complicated to continue. If it hadn't been for certain lies and manipulations, she and I would still be together.
So anyway, I got this e-mail with two attachments regarding repayment of $10,5K. Note, the original debt was only $10K. This, as Vicki explains it, is because you can't charge back-dated interest. Her parents "gave me a break." Interestingly, about two days after she and I split up, Vicki removed an extra $1,000.00 from our shared banking account which I'd put in there many weeks prior (possibly months prior, I cannot recall the exact date). When I queried her, she said, "since you put it in there to go towards the $10,000.00 we owe my parents, I figured I'd take it out just in case." I was floored. However, since it was going to help repay Vicki's debt to her parents, I decided I was okay with it. Afterall, it would be really shitty of me to not help my girlfriend.
So, Vicki writes to me, "the $500 payment that you made toward the note has been taken into account." $500? I missed the part where $1,000 = $500. Shouldn't the total indebtedness be only $9,000.00? On top of this, she writes in the promissory note I'll repay the debt at something like $338.00 a month, with 8% interest!
Look, I am a reasonable man. I see that I benefitted, and she got the shit end of the stick. I am also an honorable man (for the most part). I don't like getting free rides or anyone's charity. I am willing to help repay the debt; I promised Vicki as much. Being a man of my word (for the most part), she should trust that I intend to make good on that. She should not, however, try to legally contract me into an interest-bearing mortgage or loan. She and I got into that house together. We both share the burden.
Apples to apples? I am in the hole for $168,000.00 plus a 6% interest for the next 29 years. She's in the hole for $9,000.00 at 0% interest for an infinite time frame.
If she wants to play silly, I guess she can hire a lawyer. If she'll realize I am trying to be honorable, she'll agree to something less burdensome.
It shouldn't be like this, Vicki, and you know it.
