I want to run away. . .

day 2: something that’s illegal but you think it should be legal

I've always been of the opinion that you really can't take the full measure of a place if you only do a hit and run visit.  A holiday is a great thing don't take me wrong, but you really can't tell if you would be happy in any place unless you give yourself the opportunity to set up a semblance of surface roots.   I would love to just hop across the pond. . . . hell. . even across the sound  . . . and just veg out and take a day job in a different city.  Vancouver B.C. is just a train trip away. . or a 4 hour drive . . .even a 2 hour hydro ferry ride away, but if I tried to get a job there, poof. . . deportation, and meybe a fine.

I know the political and social understanding at having globally closed borders, but really. . . are they all that necessary?  To live and work abroad on a working holiday would be a fantastic opportunity, but it's something I can't see myself ever getting the chance to do outside of a few weirdo groups like the Workaway.info crowd.   I looked up that group on a whim.  The gist of it is simple, you find a family that needs some help, and for a bit of work put in you can usually get free room and a bit of board for a span of time while you get to explore on your time off.   A bit of self indentured servitude with the option to tell em piss off if you get tired of schlepping horse shit.   Though I actually wouldn't mind that since I actually enjoyed working on my uncles ranch when he still had it.

So there's my two cents on what should be legal. . . no global barriers to go on a working holiday.  I know there is no way to make that sort of system work.  But I can hope no?
