Cat Scratch Fevah!

Jun 28, 2007 03:03

I will, eventually, get around to a serious entry, maybe after this one. for now, however, you get another love post. I know, I know, "WTF, You've been posting Arashi Love posts a lot lately you ph00."

But, to the assured relief of the non-JE freaks on my list, This is not an Arashi love post. though I'm SO TEMPTED FTW

THIS IS A CAT LOVE POST.

That's right. I'm making cat macros or pimping them. If I Make a macro you like, then guess what? I CAN MAKE ICONAGE OF IT FOR YOU, Y/Y? Also, if you are the original owner of the image, let me know so I can credit? Arigato! ^_^

First off, note the Icon- If you know the original owner, let me know, as the person I snagged it from couldn't remember where s/he got it. :)

Also, to save your browsers, all pics are thumbnails linking to a larger image.

HERE WE GO:

I. Cat macros I make?

II. Cat links and other kitteh lols

Not so mine: apparently you can get your cat an urn. shaped like a cat on a book. yeah. 0_o They also have sleeping cat, a dog, and a rabbit on a box.

Regardless of what they say about dogs, appearently you can teach an old cat new tricks. Their top example? Teaching you cat to beg. I don't know about you, but my cats don't need help learning, they already be masters. XD

And if you've ever wanted to follow another cat lover's obsession, look no further then catcam. I ♥ for the kitty pics in their gallery. You might ♥ for the reassurance that yes, there are people more into their cat then you or as a smiling lover of cat-session. Unfortunately, Most of the cats previously featured have since passed on ;_; though you can read about their lives in their BIos.

On a more happy note, there is a cat sitter. like a baby sitter. only not. however, she has piccies of her kittens that will make you coo.

While looking for images to macro, I re-discovered something: There is so so so much Asian art featuring cats. thus, I had to look up what cats symbolize in Asian Cultures:

* according to here, "Well, in Chinese culture, the tiger is the king of all land animals. He is well respected like his friend the dragon (who rules all of the aquatic animals), and he has equally mythical powers. Among them, the tiger frightens demons and encourages warriors. In past centuries, there were many more tigers in the woods of China, and it was not safe to walk alone in many areas.People respect these large cats for their stealth and prowess. By wearing clothes emblazoned with tigers, they hope to gain their powers.Tigers were also used for medicine in ancient times - some say that tigers’ whiskers can cure a toothache. Maybe you should stick to wearing his stripes."

So the tiger is like a land dragon? o.0 no clue

* according to fluerdelis, Muslim culture reveres the cat as it saved Muhammad from the serpent. This seems confirmed by Cats of Cairo (a book available as PDF), and several other articles and books.

- additionally, Cats of Cairo also claims Muhammad once said "love of cats is part of the faith." I'm not sure how accurate that is, so any one who knows more about Islam, could you elaborate?

- cool little Islamic myth from MessyBeast: "In Islam, the "M" marking stands for the prophet Mohammed (Muhammad) who had a great fondness for cats. While dogs are considered unclean by many Muslims, cats - who frequently bury their own waste and rarely eat another animal's feces - are not.

Mohammed apparently loved cats and rather than disturb his sleeping cat, Muezza, he once cut off a sleeve of his robe which she was sleeping on when the call to prayer sounded. It is also said that the reason he loved cats was that one saved his life from a snake that had crawled into his sleeve. Legend says that Mohammed blessed cats with the ability to land on their feet. One of his writings tells that he had a vision of a woman punished in Hell for starving her cat to death. "

I now want to name a cat Muezza. Because it's a historical cat name. History geek much?

* Cats in Singapore (singapura) and Malaysia- "Singapura" literally means "Lion City", and has The merlion as a city mascot. However, they also have many multi-colored bobbed tail cats running about. In Malaysia, the town of Kuching lies. "Kuching" apparently means "cat." Thus, they have an extensive cat Museum! I know where I'm going if I ever visit Malaysia!

* On cat-eating: There is a difference between the pet cat and the food cat on the market, and it's supposedly only truly common in rural or poor China and Korea (?). Before you Freak out about the Idea of a food cat, If you are of European decent chances are your ancestors also ate cat, as it is fairly well documented- Even Dickens (Who's writing I find dull but who is great at capturing the details of life) makes note of it. and many times cat is passed off as rabbit, even today. Just think of it this way: Just as there are pet vs food/skin rabbits, so too for kittehs.

Oh, and Japan apparently really looks down upon kitteh eating, so cat lovers you may keep your J-pop/Anime Obsession. Even K-popers shouldn't worry, as upper- and middle- class Korea has been strongly influenced by Japanese culture.

Personally, though, I'll refrain from knowingly buying cat by-products- For the same reasons Cuchulain was supposed to avoid eating dog meat.

*From the same site: "In China, the skin of a cat is believed efficacious against rheumatism. In Korea, a soup or paste made from cat forms part of a traditional remedy for rheumatism although actual cat-eating is considered to be relatively rare."

* Cats Rule! no, seriously! (MessyBeast article)

"Chinese legends say that cats were put in charge of the world and had the power of speech. The cats soon delegated this job to humans so that felines could laze about. That is why cats can no longer speak and why they wear supercilious expressions when they see us scurrying about!"

"The shadowy patches on the necks of Siamese cats are the thumbprints of gods who picked the cats up to admire them. Birman cats started out as a plain brown cats until one jumped on the body of a Burmese priest slain by Thai invaders and the priest's spirit passed into it. The cat's body turned golden while its head, tail and legs remained brown. The cat's feet went pure white as they had touched the holy man's skin."

" In Japan, vampires can disguise themselves as cats but are readily identified by having two tails while sorcerors disguised as cats enter houses to devour naughty children!"

"In Russia, blue cats were often thought lucky while in Japan tortoiseshell-and-white ('mi-ke') is luckiest and tortoiseshell cats, especially tortie tomcats, are lucky for sailors wanting fair weather. . . In Japan, a black spot on a cat means the the cat contains the soul of a departed ancestor."

"In Indonesia cats are thought to control the rain."

"In Japan, a cat waved a forepaw to beckon a lord into a building, saving him from a lightning bolt and the beckoning cat is still used as a good luck charm. According to Buddhists dark coloured cats attracted gold and light coloured cats brought silver."

*A more through discussion of the beckoning cat (which was adopted by Sanrio for merchandising and translated in English as "Hello Kitty". . .) can be found here.

*According to wikipedia, "Several ancient religions believed that cats are exalted souls, companions or guides for humans, that they are all-knowing but are mute so they cannot influence decisions made by humans. In Japan, the Maneki Neko is a cat that is a symbol of "good fortune". While in Islam there is not a sacred species, it is said by some writers that Muhammad had a favorite cat, Muezza. It is said he loved cats so much that "he would do without his cloak rather than disturb one that was sleeping on it".
"

Maybe I should have just pimped Messybeast.com? XD

Other cat facts: While male cats are Toms, Female cats are Queens- of course!
Declawing a cat is actually ILLEGAL in some countries? This includes Japan and the UK.

Fighting is the most common way for a cat to contract FIV- That's right, cat AIDs is real. ;_;

Calico cats (also known as mi-ke or tricolor) Are statistically more likely to be female, "because the coat pattern is the result of differential X chromosome inactivation in females" However, solid Orange (red) cats are typically male.

Also, wiki pedia has a list of historical and famous cats.

Finally, more cat pic spam- This time of my cats!

Cambria is the younger of the two, born in the spring of 2006. She is also known as Cammie, Princessa, evil beast, and Sadistic bitch. XD She is a long hair Calico, with an oriental type build: long slender body, longish nose, slightly large ears. She Isn't fixed yet, and most certainly has claws. Her hobbies include attacking ANYTHING, moving or not, that gets too close to her, Ringing a chain of bells to be let out, and killing anything in the yard smaller then her (Birds, chipmunks, baby ground hogs. . . you get the idea). My sister often zombie bites her (mouths her head) in photos.

Mel Is a MUCH older cat at approx. 13 or so years old. He is a lean short haired black cat who has always been in prime shape for hunting. If you see a pic of a black cat, it's very like him. Unfortunately in his old age He is loosing his pointy teeth- I think he has his upper right and the scraggle tooth (which looks to fall out soon) on the lower left. He also goes by the name Melvin, Melba-Toast, Sweet Prince, and Prince Charming. He used to be a great hunter, jumping for bats ten feet in the air, and taking down BIRDS OF PREY bigger then him. Unfortunately, now he is old, and is soon approaching the end of his days. ;_; But he's still my Prince Charming! he used to be snarkier (for a cat) but he now just ignores stupidity. ♥

And for dog lovers, here's my Vinnie with a grass toupee on his head!!!

LAST NOTE: THIs has taken me since about 5:30pm. o.0
