Chapter: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9

Loud, bone-chilling shrieks echoed the underground sewers of the city where only rats and other fiends dare to take refuge. In the deep the dark tunnels of the damp and murky chamber was a large metal door. And beneath it laid more horrors humans living above were oblivious of.

Rusted chains came dangling from the high ceiling. Large, filthy metal pipes wrapped the whole place. The bricked walls were smothered with the color of rust, blood, and moss. Lastly, but not least, the reeking odor of rotting flesh emanated from the animal cages stacked roughly on top of another.

Another horrifying growl was heard. It was a hybrid chained on its neck, feet, and arms. Metal hooks pierced the flesh on its already rotting posterior. The hybrid kept resisting the chains that bounded it as its scorn-filled eyes glared at the man smugly standing in front of it. If those chains would ever break, the man surely would have been torn to pieces. The man had glowing red eyes and long ebony hair draping over his shoulders. Everything, from his Victorian-styled clothing to his posture, was elegant.

“What have you been doing? Playing around and causing a stir up above, Tsunehito?” The elusive man spoke still enjoying the monstrosity in front of him. Tsunehito, who stood in the shadows, slowly paced towards the man and stood right next to him.

“Can I not have a little fun with the humans once in a while, Asagi?” The red-haired teased with his usual scheming smile adorning his lips. He also enjoyed watching the hybrid as it cringed and screamed in pain.

“Have you found him?”
Tsunehito looked deeply engrossed with the monster in front of him that he didn’t even bother to look at Asagi. He just hummed a cheerful “Who?” at the man.
“The one that has been secretly finishing off the hybrids and our men.” Asagi darted.
“Not yet.” The red-haired hummed again. Asagi just stared at Tsunehito before picking up a spear and plunging it at the monster’s stomach.

“It’s healing and regenerating process seems to have improved. But it will still feel the pain and remember the excruciating suffering we had inflicted it.” The ebony-haired man hissed as he slowly turned the spear, making the sharp metal hooks grind inside the hybrid’s flesh. As its screams and cries got louder the fiends inside the other cages yelped along with it. Asagi pushed the spear further and immediately pulled it out causing some of the hybrid’s flesh to be ripped out as well. Tsunehito flinched at the sight of the scattering meat on the ground pretending to feel remorse for the hybrid. But really he didn’t give a fuck. He wanted it to die already. It was a complete waste of his time experimenting on the hybrids.

Throwing the blood-covered spear on the floor, Asagi turned around and started to head for the exit. The sound of his heels suddenly stopped making Tsunehito glance at him.

“Are you not telling me anything?” Asagi mused while looking from his back.
“Aside from a human toy I found, and that I don’t have any information on the genius who’s been turning humans into hybrids, no.” Tsunehito huffed while crouching down to pick up the spear. “I think I’ve told you everything I know.” Asagi faced back and immediately left slowly disappearing from the darkness.

Tsunehito gripped the weapon in his hand and started stabbing the hybrid with it. He couldn’t contain himself and started to laugh. His ear trembling giggle resonated with the pained screams of the hybrid. One last jab and he stopped. Giving the hybrid one last annoying smirk, he took a pair of large keys from his pocket.

“Well then, play time’s over. It’s time for you to get back to work.”

----

The fog at the road seemed to be getting thicker and thicker. It was almost impossible to see the path. Hiroto had already tripped a few times. He thought it was a good thing that Saga knew where they were heading, since the man just kept walking. But the blond slowly realized that the further they walked, the more deserted the place became. There wasn’t even a single car that passed by them on the road. The road? Rather, they weren’t walking on asphalt anymore. The fog was thick, but Hiroto could have sworn that they were in a forest right now.

“Hey! Where are we?”
Saga stopped walking and scratched his head. “I... I don’t really know.”
“What?! I’ve been following you around thinking you knew where to go!” Hiroto marched towards Saga almost wanting to give him another injury.
“I thought so, too.” Saga sheepishly replied.
“Why am I even talking to you? You probably did hit your head too hard.”
“Well, you shouldn’t have followed me in the first place.” The taller half-heartedly replied. Hiroto, however, found no need to answer him back. What was he even thinking? Following a stranger that kidnapped him and what was worse was that he actually felt worried for the man.

A sudden noise disrupted the two making them turn to the opposite direction.
“Did you hear that?” Hiroto whispered, glancing back and forth as he shortened his distance from Saga.
“Shh.” The taller silenced him trying to feel the atmosphere around them. Crunching and wailing noises that seemed to be coming from all directions followed the sound. Hiroto’s heart pounded so loud that he thought it could burst out of his chest any minute. His knees trembled at the thought that there could be more vampires out there. It was dark and Saga was currently in no condition to defend themselves. Not to mention they were at a deserted forest where no one could possibly hear them no matter how loud they cried for help. They were at a complete disadvantage.

There was definitely something stalking them. And not being able to tell where the enemy was pissed Saga off. Heck, he couldn’t even fight anymore in his current state. A shrill wave suddenly hit him like electricity sending jolts through his spine. Saga slowly glanced over to his shoulder and saw Hiroto frantically saying something to him, but he couldn’t hear a word the blond was uttering. And then he saw it, at the corner of his eye, a man with pale and almost decomposing skin, bloodshot eyes, and a bloodthirsty grin decorating its mouth.

“Blondie…run.” Saga tried to warn Hiroto as calm as he could to not scare the younger man. There was no chance that they could kill the hybrid and their only option was to run, or at least Hiroto could run and he could catch the monster’s attention, or become its dinner. That was what Saga had in mind. However, Hiroto couldn’t help but destroy his perfectly devised plan and took a look at the hybrid that was staring at him. All Hiroto could remember was the monster’s terrifying face came charging as he was pushed on the cold soil. He sat up and spotted the hybrid pinning Saga on the ground. Hiroto couldn’t tell if he was being eaten or what, but if the hybrid kept this up, he knew he would be next.

Hiroto wasn’t even done thinking when the monster suddenly halted and darted its head towards Hiroto’s position. Hiroto couldn’t move. He couldn’t even stand up. The guy was different from the two vampires they encountered at the warehouse. He wasn’t even sure what the ‘thing’ was. He looked human, but not all human. The hybrid suddenly sprang up, completely ignoring Saga, and dashed towards him. Hiroto closed his eyes and waited for the taste of death, but nothing happened. The hybrid ran pass him. The blond turned his head and saw the attacker being lifted from the ground through its neck. The man who strangled the hybrid was not the person Hiroto expected to see. It was dark and foggy, but he was sure it was Shou.

Shou gripped onto the hybrid’s neck tighter and tighter. The monster fidgeted beneath him, but failed to break free. Shou had enough encounters for one night. He was dead tired, tired of the hybrids. He increased the pressure in his grip almost ripping the hybrid’s head from its body, giving it a quick and painful death. Hiroto couldn’t make out the feeling in his stomach. He felt like passing out on the spot as he slapped his palm over his mouth trying his best not to throw up. But Saga’s mangled image popped up in his mind reminding him of the now unconscious man lying just a few feet from him. Hiroto didn’t even bother to talk or greet Shou. He scurried towards Saga and tried to wake him up making sure if the man was still alive.

“H-hey…wake up…” Hiroto shook Saga’s shoulder, and then slowly cupping his cheek with his hand.
“I think he’s passed out.” Shou walked towards the two, baffled on whom the mysterious character Hiroto was with. He wanted to ask who it was, but looking at Hiroto, it seemed like this wasn’t the time to be asking questions. “Come on, let’s get you both out of here.”

----

Nao worked silently at the living room, scribbling notes and scanning through some of his books, while trying to figure out Tora’s current condition. The brunet looked up from his notebook and settled down his pen. He stood up from the couch, sensing that Shou was back. However, that wasn’t the case. It wasn’t only Shou who he seemed to have recognized. The living room door opened, and a small blond man came rushing in, surprising the doctor. Hiroto looked puzzled seeing him there, but didn’t really mind.

“Where’s Tora?” The blond quickly spat not giving Nao enough time to introduce himself. The brunet simply pointed at Tora’s room and Hiroto quickly bolted inside. Shortly after that, Shou came in, with an unconscious man on his back.

“He was with Hiroto so I had no choice but to bring him in, too” Shou mused. But Nao couldn’t talk. He stared at the man with his mouth half opened.
“Nao-san… don’t tell me…you also know this guy?”
Nao nodded without saying single word. And Shou could have sworn the doctor was tearing up. He laid Saga’s body on the couch and let Nao fix the bruised man up. The doctor quickly knelt beside him to cover up the wound on his head, when the man suddenly opened his eyes and smiled at the brunet. The way Nao looked at the other man, it was something he had never seen his best friend do. He felt a little uneasy not knowing that Nao had a lover all along or that was what he thought the mysterious man was. But they hadn’t seen each other for years. It was no surprise that Nao could find someone.

----

A few hours had passed. Nao already closed the cuts on Saga’s head and administered morphine on him. Hiroto was also checked up for injuries and now slept inside Tora’s room. Shou sat in the kitchen with his elbows on the table while his palms covered his eyes. Nao joined in handing him a cup of coffee.

“I hope you don’t mind, you said I could help myself when I’m here.” Nao chirped as Shou grabbed the mug and took a sip.
“I didn’t even know we still had coffee.” Shou couldn’t help but smile. Nao smiled back.
“Shou-kun, about Tora…” The brunet placed down his coffee mug and looked at Shou.
“I don’t think he was bitten.” Shou’s eyes grew wider as he waited for Nao to explain everything to him. “There was no trace of a bite on his body. Though the vampire blood is reacting inside him, which explains his moody behavior and sudden fits. But I still don’t understand how it got inside of him.”
“You’re not suggesting… Tora was a vampire from the start, are you?” The golden-haired asked with a very worried tone.
“No! He couldn’t be. But it’s the first time I’ve seen that kind of case. It’s almost like a hybrid’s… but somehow, Tora is not yet crossing the line.” It was very much a mystery to the two of them as to how Tora started displaying the characteristics of a vampire. Shou gripped on his hands as anger and guilt crowded his thoughts. Anger because of Tsunehito’s meddling and stupid act; guilt because he wasn’t there to protect Tora when all of this was his fault from the start.

“Shou!” Nao called out to him snapping him back to his senses. “You’re blaming yourself again? Don’t do that.” Nao’s eyes softened. “Tora’s alright, that is what’s important, right? You just have to wait until...” Nao glanced at his watch before looking back at Shou. “…3 more hours and it’s sunrise already.”
“Nao-san!”
“What?”
“Why didn’t you remind me? I could have blocked the windows earlier!” Shou immediately stood up, almost making the cup fall off the table.
“Ah~” Nao replied with a sheepish smile before Shou dragged him off his seat and into the living room.

----

Even with a slight headache, Tora managed to open his eyes and pulled himself up on the bed. The snoring of a blond young man sleeping on the edge of his bed caught his attention. Tora almost lost his balance as he rushed towards Hiroto giving him a big hug. The both of them almost fell on the floor.

“Hiroto! Thank God! You’re alright!” Hiroto’s head started to spin since Tora kept on shaking him.
“Damn you, Tora! You’ve been getting yourself into dangerous stuff again!” Hiroto joked while trying to kick Tora’s legs.
“What happened anyway? Where were you?”
Hiroto paused thinking on how to answer Tora’s question. “I don’t really know. All I know is that…Shou rescued us.” Tora raised a brow upon hearing Hiroto’s explanation.
“… Us?”

The two decided to go to the living room, but it wasn’t the living room Tora was familiar with. It was dark inside. And by dark, no sunlight passed through the windows. Rather, the windows were covered with layers and layers of newspaper, cardboard, and curtains clumsily done.

“What the heck?”
“Oh~ Good morning Tora!” Nao, who was currently sipping tea on the couch, greeted him. Another unfamiliar face, who was also sitting next to Nao, waved at them. It was Saga wearing only his pants and showing off his naked and bandaged shoulders.

“Wait a sec. Who are you?” The raven-haired furrowed his brows while eyeing the half-naked man. “And why are the windows… like that?” However, before Tora could react once more, Hiroto had already cut him off.

“He’s…umm…”
“Saga.” The dark-haired introduced himself.
“Saga… he… he saved me from vampires, and other ‘things’.”
Tora glared at Saga, who was also staring nonchalantly at him. He still couldn’t fully trust the man since he wasn’t at the scene where Hiroto was kidnapped even though Hiroto claimed that this man saved him.
“How are you feeling now?” The brunet suddenly asked Tora.
“The usual. Just…normal.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“Wait a minute. Why are the windows like that anyway?”
“Because it would be lethal for Nao-san if sunlight hits him.” Shou’s sharp tone caught everyone’s attention.
“Come on now, Shou-kun. You make it sound so serious.”
“But it is.” Shou pursed before setting down a few grocery bags on the kitchen table.
“So you mean he’s also a vampire?” Hiroto commented while pointing at Nao. Tora didn’t dare to look Shou in the eye. He found it difficult after the things he said to him the other night. He perfectly remembered everything he said to the golden-haired and it made him sick in the stomach.

“But if he can’t stand the sunlight, how come you could go out on the open just like that?” Nao didn’t like where the conversation was going, but it looked like both Hiroto and Tora wanted answers. Shou carried a pained expression on his face. He didn’t like speaking about the matter and neither did Nao. But it was one of his sins and Tora had every right to know about everything that was going on. Shou took a deep breath.
“Because Nao was human. At one time.”

AN: I hope this doesn't sound so rushed. I didn't rush this!!!! I've been writing just this chapter for a month XD Why the heck am I like this? Why can't I update faster like most of the fan fic writers here? I feel ashamed T^T Christmas vacation just started, 2 weeks of no classes, so I'm hoping I could update on a regular basis. *sigh* I'm actually writing chapter 10 and 11 now...I'm planning to write more in advanced.
